What would you say if I told you the Dallas Cowboys could have not one but two versions of CeeDee Lamb?
Well, before you get excited, I’ll admit I can’t tell you that. However, as it’s often the case this time of the year, there’s a take about a prospect who has been previously been mocked to the Cowboys that recently drew a comparison to Lamb ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Brett Kollman, who’s become one of the best Xs and Os analysts in the internet world, has been putting together a series of posts where he posts a picture of one draft prospect followed by another of a current NFL player while just adding “imo” (short for in my opinion) as the caption.
Browns can’t allow painful draft trend at key position continue in 2024
In one of the latest posts he’s put out there he had Lamb side by side with Texas Longhorns’ Adonai Mitchell. The wide receiver ranks as the 38th overall prospect per the consensus board.
A to Z Sports’ own James Foster also listed Lamb as Mitchell’s NFL Draft comp in his 2024 Big Board. Per Foster, Mitchell has “size, speed, and fluidity that you can’t teach, has the body control & spatial awareness to make difficult sideline catches, and adjusts route tempo & makes crisp horizontal breaks.”
The comparisons haven’t been well received by everyone, judging by the replies to Kollman’s post. Shocker! People disagreeing over the NFL Draft, where not even full-time scouts and evaluators get it right despite having countless resources. Below are some of the responses, which point to Mitchell’s lack of statistical production, among other things.
NFL insider ‘believes’ Cowboys could consider Adonai Mitchell in the first round
Destin Adams, who had boots in the ground for A to Z Sports for the Senior Bowl, put together a mock draft after the event where he had Dallas trade back and pick Adonai Mitchell in the second round.
In his breakdown, Adams explains he believes Dallas could consider the former Longhorn in the first round, as well:
I have the Cowboys trading out of the first round and adding two day two picks this year and one next year. The funny thing is a player I believe they would consider in the first is Texas WR Adonai Mitchell, who is also the pick here at 42. I think Mitchell’s skill set would complement CeeDee Lamb’s game really well. And with it looking like the Cowboys are going to tie themselves to Dak Prescott long term, I think they will look to get younger at wideout, with Mitchell being the WR two over Brandin Cooks.
If Mitchell turns out to be that kind of a player and the Cowboys do take him, we’re talking about a potential massive upgrade at wide receiver, an area where Dallas could really improve despite it being a solid position.
