NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal tells Jason Kelce to ‘accept’ retirement

Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce has a big decision to make over the next few weeks.

He can either choose to ask for a new contract and return to the Eagles in 2024 for a 15th season or retire.

Shaquille O’Neal, who knows a thing or two about not wanting to call it quits after playing 19 years in the NBA, recently offered Kelce some retirement advice — from one legend to another — on “The Big Podcast.”

“My advice to you is if you are going to retire, accept it, (and) enjoy your family brother,” O’Neal said. “I made a lot of dumb mistakes to where I lost my family and I didn’t have anybody. That’s not the case for you. So enjoy your beautiful wife. Enjoy your beautiful kids, and never dwell on what we had. What we had is what we got.”

After playing one year shy of 20 seasons in the NBA, Shaq finally retired in 2011.

But it was too late to fix his broken home as his wife, Shaunie, filed for a divorce that same year and took the kids with her.

While Shaq’s advice is solid, there’s a night-and-day difference for Kelce and his home life compared to the basketball star’s.

No disrespect to Shaq and his past mistakes, but Kelce has stayed faithful to his wife, Kylie Kelce, and you can tell how genuinely strong their relationship is.

Additionally, Kylie has openly said she is going to stand behind whatever decision Jason makes, so one more season is certainly not going to wreck what he has at home.

But should Kelce retire, he’s mustered one heck of a career as a six-time first-team All-Pro and seven-time Pro Bowl center.
