“This music is still here, and vibrant.”
Some may think that comfortably existing as a part of the world’s biggest metal band might make one disinterested in what’s going on further down the music industry’s food chain. Still, Metallica’s Rob Trujillo seems to be as keen on discovering new bands as ever.
Speaking on the “Turned Out A Punk” podcast in a recent interview, the bassist singled out Vein.fm, Sunami, and Terror as some of the bands he’s been getting into lately — thanks to his kids. Of course, as a longtime member of Suicidal Tendencies and Infectious Grooves, Rob should know a thing or three about hardcore, so if you haven’t already, you might want to check out those up-and-coming outfits. The bassist said (via Metal Injection):
“This music is still here, and vibrant. There are hardcore bands that are kicking ass, and that whole movement is growing. I see it with my kids, because they’re listening to some of these bands–a lot of them–and just loving it, and they’re getting me into it now!
“Bands like Vein.fm and Sunami and Terror and these different groups. I’m getting sucked in too and I’m like the oldest guy at the gig. I’m sitting there like an old man and I’m watching all this go down [laughs]. So I feel like there’s something brewing, and that excites me.”
Metallica’s eleventh studio album “72 Seasons” is out now.
