Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry holds the NBA All-Star record for maximum points in a round of the three-point contest. But the best record for a three-point contest is held by WNBA superstar Sabrina Ionescu. After setting the record last year, Ionescu tagged Curry in a tweet. She suggested that the two of them should play head-to-head. It seems the dream matchup might actually happen this year.
Curry was mic’d up during the shootaround before the Warriors game against the Sacramento Kings. He was speaking with rookie teammate Brandin Podziemski on the court and discussed the possibility of bringing Sabrina Ionescu to the NBA’s All-Star weekend for a shootout. He said this to Podziemski:
We got to settle this once and for all. I think I got to challenge her.
It seems Ionescu issued the first challenge after she set the record last year. Curry, responded to her, accepting the challenge. Now, with the NBA’s All-Star weekend approaching, it might be the best setting for the potential showdown.
Stephen Curry holds the record for most shots in the contest held in 2021, scoring 31 out of 40 points. During last season’s WNBA All-Star three-point contest, Ionescu obliterated that record by scoring 37 of the 40 points. This has brought out debates about whether the women’s game has finally beaten the men’s game in at least one department.
The irony is that Curry, the greatest three-point scorer in NBA history, also happens to be Ionescu’s favorite player growing up. The four-year player has often described Curry as bringing change in the way people play basketball today. Now, with a high possibility of the matchup happening, it will be a dream come true for Ionescu to play against her idol.

How are fans reacting to this possible matchup?
Even though the matchup was discussed between the two, the world was intrigued to see how the two would fare in a head-to-head. For the first time in history, a man vs woman matchup is being scheduled. It remains to be seen how the differences in ball size and three-point line distance are unified for an equal matchup.

But fans of the NBA were quick to poke fun in the direction of Curry. They think this is an unwelcome distraction for him considering the state of the Warriors. Many also think Ionescu will humiliate the 2-time MVP. Check out some of their reactions below;
If the New York Liberty’s young superstar manages to win against one of basketball’s most recognizable faces, the WNBA could get major traction. The women’s game has been picking up in popularity but still needs that major push that this showdown can partly provide.
