Minnesota star Anthony Edwards has reportedly been charged with two counts of third-degree assault following an incident after the Timberwolves’ defeat to the Denver Nuggets.
Edwards’ side fell 112-109 to the Nuggets in the series clincher in the Playoffs Round 1
The 21-year-old missed a vital three-pointer that would’ve tied up the game in the dying moments of the game which saw Denver take the series 4-1.
The shooting guard immediately left the court, however, he allegedly picked up a chair and swung it in the direction of a female security guard and also hit another staff member while spinning it in his arms.
Fox Sports reports that the team bus had to be stopped after the game in order for the Denver Police to cite Edwards.
Different angles of the incident circulated online show the player making his way toward the tunnel in a quick manner and grabbing a chair on his way out.
The swing doesn’t seem to have been done in a violent manner.
Denver Sports says that the police stated that both women were injured but not seriously.
Edwards could face the punishment of a fine up to USD$1000 or 18 months in jail.
TMZ confirmed he was due in court for a hearing on the matter in June.
The young player had been pivotal in keeping the Minnesota team alive in the series after hitting a clutch three-pointer in overtime of Game 4.
He finished that game with 34 points and ensured that the series wasn’t a wash out.
He said, after that game: “I don’t ever want to say I got swept in my career.
“So I definitely took it personally tonight.”
He averaged 31.6 points per game in the playoff series in an astounding effort, along with 5 rebounds and 5.2 assists.
