F1 racing has long been known as the most prestigious speed racing tournament in the world. With completely separate racetracks built and designed only for the teams’ professional racers. Formula racing is a television event that attracts a large number of fans with millions of followers each year.
Recently, Lewis Hamilton criticized the drivers of this tournament, almost all of whom are in the hands of billionaires’ children. That’s why he believes that low-class, working-class people like him are gradually unable to enter F1.
‘F1 is now full of billionaires’
“We are living in a time when Formula 1 is becoming the club of billionaires’ sons,” Hamilton told Diario AS. “If I had to start over from a working-class family, I wouldn’t be here today. Because other boys have more money. We must change to make F1 a more accessible subject for everyone, both for the rich and for families with less means.”
Hamilton refers to Lance Stroll, Nicholas Latifi and most recently Nikita Mazepin appearing in F1. They are all children of billionaires who invest in the racing team they are competing for. But, only Stroll can compete with other racers. While Latifi and Mazepin continuously disappoint.
Lewis Hamilton’s father – Mr. Anthony – used to work as an IT manager. But his family had to live in low-income housing when Lewis was young. Kimi Raikkonen and Esteban Ocon’s family is also working class. But, most F1 drivers come from well-off families. Among the recently joined talents, Lando Norris or Mick Schumacher are also children of millionaires.
For Lewis Hamilton to win his 7th F1 championship, it is estimated that Mercedes had to spend more than 325 million pounds
Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes team had to spend 325 million pounds to ensure the British driver won the 2020 F1 season championship. Statistics posted in the Mercedes racing team account reveal that. At that time, Silver Arrows invested heavily in F1.
Despite investing heavily, Mercedes still did not lose money: They had revenue of 355.5 million pounds; with a profit after tax of £13.6 million.
