Christian Horner was surprised that Lewis Hamilton did not know that someone wanted to apply for him to work at Red Bull Racing.

In recent days, the F1 village has been buzzing with the story of Lewis Hamilton wanting to ‘apply for a job’ at the Red Bull Racing team. The story (if true) happened when Hamilton had not yet signed a contract extension with Mercedes.

However, when reporters directly asked Lewis Hamilton, he completely denied it. The 7-time F1 champion driver believes that many people want to use his name to attract views:

‘No problem. I have no contact with them (Red Bull). Only Christian texted me to ask.’

‘I also asked my team members and no one talked to them either. They are the ones who want to contact us.’

‘One time I was at home, I turned on my old phone and saw hundreds of messages. I realized it included a message from Christian. Then I responded to him with my new phone. That happened a long time ago.’

‘In general, there are many people who like to involve me in their stories because they know that doing so will create effects. If you feel lonely or unnoticed, just scream my name.’

Hamilton also confirmed that he reported the incident of chatting with Christian Horner to his boss Toto Wolff, as proof that he always respected and was transparent with Mercedes:

‘I told Toto that too. I want the racing team to know that. Because if everyone on the team speculates wildly, it’s definitely not a positive thing.’

On the contrary, Christian Horner confirmed that Lewis Hamilton was the one who initiated the contact, so he expressed surprise that Lewis Hamilton did not know about it:

‘They (Hamilton’s side) expressed interest in us. I think that’s not unusual.’

‘I don’t want to go into detail about where we (with Hamilton) talked, who included, etc.’

‘I’m just a little surprised whether they let Lewis know about it or not. But in general, we will never know how other people work.’

There has been speculation that the person in contact with Christian Horner was Mr. Anthony Hamilton, Lewis Hamilton’s father. In the early years of his career, Anthony also acted as Lewis’s manager. But now it seems he is no longer ‘working’ for his son.
