Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s full relationship timeline
Move over Taylor and Travis, because there’s a new celebrity couple on everyone’s lips and that is Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco.
The couple first sparked dating rumours in December and have since gone official on Instagram (because nothing says “I love you” like a photo dump, IMO).
So, from when they likely met to how long they’ve apparently been together and those pictures, here is Selena and Benny’s full relationship timeline, starting with the most recent update.
13th February 2024 – Selena calls Benny her ‘bes fwend’
Just in time for Valentine’s Day Selena is giving us all the feels, after she shared a number of pictures with Benny on her Instagram, and captioned the adorable slide show “My bes fwend”.
Selena shared four images of the couple together, the first was in a kitchen with Selena hugging Benny from behind while he’s cooking, the second and third pictures showed them cuddling up, and the last one sees them in a kitchen with a few friends.

And of course Benny replied with any equally cute comment, “das my bes fwen”. Seriously guys, can you get any cuter?

Before 2019
Benny becomes friends with Sel’s ex-boyfriend, Justin Bieber, in 2009 – roughly a year before the singer and Disney Channel alum begin dating for the first time.
The two also have a longstanding work relationship, as he produced her 2015 Revival songs ‘Same Old Love’ and ‘Kill ’Em With Kindness’, in addition to her 2017 collaboration with Cashmere Cat, ‘Trust Nobody’.

March 2019
Sel and Benny release yet another collaboration, ‘I Can’t Get Enough’ with J Balvin and Tainy – AKA that song where the music video sees the producer wearing a teddy bear costume. Behold:

Fans note that there might be some tension between Benny – who collaborated with Justin on his 2021 song ‘Lonely’ – and Sel, given the shade the producer seems to throw her way while promoting the single.
During an interview on the Zach Sang Show, Benny says, “Justin’s not one of those cookie-cutter pop artists. Like you know, they’re like, ‘this is my new single and here’s my makeup line.’”

Considering Sel had literally just launched her iconic Rare Beauty makeup line, fans take the remark as a diss.
However, neither artist addresses the interview’s subsequent social media frenzy, so it could all have just been sheer coincidence? Or perhaps Benny privately apologised to Selena? Either way, things start to move on very quickly…

Then, if that isn’t enough to keep Selenators beyond thrilled, she also gave us a little insight into the traits she’s looking for in a partner during a SiriusXM Hits 1 LA interview.
While discussing her ‘Single Soon; line about being “a little high-maintenance,” she dishes, “I think I have standards. And I think I live in a world right now where boys confuse standards with high-maintenance.
“The line was really fun because I’m not ashamed to say, ‘I actually require X, Y, and Z for you to be with me.’ So in a way, it was just meant to be for the attitude of the song. And that’s genuinely how I feel,” she continued.
She then reveals the qualities she wants in a partner, saying, “I mean you gotta be cool, man. Not cool in the sense that people think you’re cool. You just gotta be nice and like, please make me laugh and also just be good to my family and people around you.” 🥺

A source gives Entertainment Tonight a dating update on the actor, and reveals that she’s single: “Selena is casually dating and doing well… She is doing her own thing and doesn’t feel any sort of pressure to be in a relationship.
“She is just focusing on what’s best for her right now and has been very in tune with maintaining her own boundaries. Her friends and family support her and just want her to be happy.”

Selena likes the following two Instagram posts on the (since deleted 😬) celebrity news fan account @popfaction — the first being a report about the rumours of her being in a relationship with Benny, and the second being a roundup of clues signifying that the duo might be dating along with the headline “Selena Gomez Seemingly Confirms That She Is In A Relationship.”
And, yes, she comments “facts” on the latter.
The singer then shares an Instagram Story of her seemingly with Blanco, which is a BIG DEAL:
Oh, and she also responds to comments on PopFaction’s page and defends Benny being her boyfriend after people hit the comments section of the post with their, um, thoughts on the situ (including one person noting that Benny seemed to be “shading you years ago”).
Some of the clapbacks she pens? “He is my absolute everything in my heart,” “Lol yeah and he’s still better than anyone I’ve ever been with. Facts,” and “I don’t understand. If you actually care about me. This is my happiest. If you don’t feel free to say whatever you want. But I will never allow your words to guide my life. Ever. I’m done. if you can’t accept me at my happiest then don’t be in [my] life at all.”

We also learn that these two have apparently been together for six (!!) months, and in response to one commenter questioning her choice to date the producer, Selena writes, “Oh sweetheart, I’ve been in therapy since I was 18. I know what’s best for me and I will fight till I get what I deserve.
“I appreciate your misguided input, but I’m growing. Don’t feel free to grow with me, just know I’m not going to be with a f***boy ever again. Sorry to disappoint.”

“Selena and Benny are truly in love and although she has kept most people she’s dated under wraps, with Benny, she couldn’t wait to reveal they were together. Selena’s family absolutely approves of this relationship and they’re thrilled to see her so happy and in love.”

Selena seemingly opens up about what she looks for in a romantic partner during an interview with Vogue México y Latinoamérica. Of course, she doesn’t mention Benny by name, but it’s still super sweet.
“Honestly, I have to start being attracted to the right kind of people, because it’s a bit of both,” she said. “It’s very difficult to find someone who can listen to you and care about you, but I know that when it happens, it will be great and you will want it to be healthy.”
She also added that motherhood is “fundamental to her life’s purpose,” but that it’s likely not happening “in the short term.”

A source told US Weekly, Selena is “positively glowing” and she loves how Benny treats her.
“Benny asked her to dinner, and they started seeing each other about once a week, taking it slow. She loves how Benny treats her: he’s so kind and thoughtful. She’s never been with anyone like him. It’s been a very long time since friends saw Selena this happy. She’s positively glowing,” they told the publication.
Another source also mentioned Selena has begun introducing Benny to the people in her life, as he passed “every test with flying colours.”
“Selena has made it clear that she wants Benny by her side from now on, and she’s proudly introducing him to everyone in her life. They kept things low-key [at first], but Benny has passed every test with flying colours. The new year seemed like a perfect time to essentially shout [their love] from the rooftops, so that’s what Selena is doing,” the source revealed.

The couple make their red carpet debut at the Emmys. Well, sort of. While Benny and Selena didn’t pose for pictures on the red carpet at the 75th Emmy Awards, the couple did arrive at the ceremony together and were seen together throughout the night.
