The lengthy piece on the outlet points out that Swift is a part of the queer community and this questioning of the artist’s sexuality has angered fans and even people close to the singer.
As CNN reports, a source close to the singer criticized the op-ed for being self-indulgent and crossing all kinds of boundaries in the name of journalism. The source also pointed out the sexist nature of the op-ed and pointed out that such direct accusations wouldn’t have been written if it were a male artist. The source said,
“Because of her massive success, at this moment there is a Taylor-shaped hole in people’s ethics. This article wouldn’t have been allowed to be written about Shawn Mendes or any male artist whose sexuality has been questioned by fans.
