The red carpet at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday in Los Angeles will feature a number of stars who have previously attended the show in custom looks, designer pieces and opulent designs.
The show’s red carpet has historically been a place for celebrities to show off their elevated sense of style and envious collection of luxury fashions. While fans wait for their favorite stars to show up on next year’s red carpet, they can take a brief look through the show’s archives for endless fashion inspiration.
Below, WWD is taking a look back at what some 2024 Golden Globe nominees wore to their first Golden Globe Awards, from Meryl Streep to Margot Robbie.
Mery Streep, 1999

Mery Streep is nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role on Television for Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building.”
Streep’s first appearance at the award show was in 1999. The actress wore a long black dress adorned with large black buttons and accessorized with a simple satin bag in the same shade.
Jennifer Lawrence, 2011

Jennifer Lawrence is nominated at the Golden Globe Awards for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for “No Hard Feelings.”
Lawrence’s first appearance at the award show was in 2011. The actress wore a ruffled black and white gown from Louis Vuitton. The actress has been a brand ambassador for Dior since 2012 and was named a Longines ambassador in 2022.
Helen Mirren, 1997

Helen Mirren is nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Drama for her role in “1923,” set in the universe of drama series “Yellowstone.” Mirren has been a brand ambassador for L’Oreal since 2014.
Mirren’s first appearance at the award show was in 1997. The actress wore a black blazer that featured small black rhinestones along the jacket’s collar and shoulder seams.

Robbie’s first appearance at the award show was in 2014. The actress wore a custom silk crepe gown from Gucci and accessorized with emerald peep-toe heels. Previously, Robbie was a brand ambassador for Chanel from 2018 to 2022, and has been an ambassador for watch brand Richard Mille.

Portman’s first appearance at the award show was in 2000. The actress wore a long brown gown and paired her look with a matching shawl and handbag in the same shade. Portman has been a Dior global ambassador since 2010.

The actor has been an ambassador for Gucci since 2022, as well as a Tag Heuer ambassador since 2021.
