The actress, 33, was among a number of nominees at the star-studded ceremony, held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday.
When her name was called for the ‘Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy’ category, the No Hard Feelings star looked at the camera and mouthed, ‘If I don’t win, I’m leaving.’
Just a few moments later her pal Emma Stone, 35, was announced as the winner, however Lawrence took the loss in stride and did not proceed to leave.
Instead, she enthusiastically cheered on Emma, and appeared to scream out ‘Mother!’ in support of the star, who won for her performance in Poor Things.
Other nominees in the category included Fantasia Barrino for The Color Purple, Natalie Portman for May December, Alma Pöysti for Fallen Leaves and Margot Robbie for Barbie.
The two actresses have been longtime friends, after being introduced by each other by Woody Harrelson.
Aside from Stone’s win for Poor Things, she was also nominated for her performance in television series The Curse.
It marked her eight nomination at the Golden Globes.
She previously won in 2018 for her performance in La La Land.
Meanwhile Lawrence has three Golden Globe wins, for her performances in Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle and Joy.
Earlier on the red carpet Lawrence was the picture of elegance in a timeless black velvet gown that highlighted her hourglass shape.
The neckline was just low enough to display her smooth décolletage and the stunning 11-carat Tiffany & Co. diamond necklace resting atop her collarbones.
Her long, golden tresses were parted to the side and swept over one shoulder for an effortless, glamorous ‘do.
The mother-of-one carried a studded, silver clutch that matched her edgy ear cuff and pointy, chrome heels.
Her film No Hard Feelings hit theaters in June and earned $87.2 million at the worldwide box office.
It was directed by Gene Stupnitsky, who is known for his work on Good Boys and Bad Teacher, and a script by Stupnitsky and screenwriter John Phillips.
The concept for No Hard Feelings originated from a real-life Craigslist post that caught the attention of producers Marc Provissiero and Naomi Odenkirk.
The post sought a young woman to help transform a shy and inexperienced teenager into a cool college kid
Known for her dramatic roles in films like Silver Linings Playbook and The Hunger Games franchise, Lawrence previously said that she was thrilled to step into the world of comedy.
‘I’ve always wanted to make a comedy. I just didn’t find the right one,’ she revealed. ‘Shooting this movie, alongside a brilliant and hilarious cast, was so much fun.’
Meanwhile Stone was the picture of both elegance and sexy style decked out in a silver sequin gown with a floral design that glistened under the bright lights of the red carpet.
The 5ft6in actress wore a striking number that had a plunging neckline and slit on the left to allow for her to flaunt her legs.
She also donned a pair of matching open-toe heels, accessorized with dangling silver earrings, and had her red tresses styled long just past her shoulders with a part in the middle.
Her film Poor Things was based the story the 1992 novel of the same name by Alasdair Gray.
The story focuses on Bella Baxter (Stone), a young Victorian woman who, after being crudely resurrected by a scientist following her suicide, runs off with a debauched lawyer to embark on an odyssey of self-discovery and sexual liberation.
