Sergio Ramos posed with his arm round Shakira as the ex-girlfriend of Gerard Pique was also awarded a Latin Grammy by the former Real Madrid defender.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Shakira seized the spotlight at the Latin Grammy Awards, in Seville, Spain, clinching three honours. Notably, Ramos, Pique’s ex-teammate, presented her with two of those trophies for the Best Pop Song, which was for her diss track on the Barcelona legend, and the Best Urban Interpretation awards. Shakira and Ramos also posed for the cameras on the sidelines of the event where the Sevilla defender could be seen wrapping his arm around the Colombian singer.
THE GOSSIP
Shakira wore a sparkling gold Dolce & Gabbana dress, complemented by a matching gold microphone while singing Acróstico, a heartfelt song dedicated to her children. Notably, some of Shakira’s recent releases, such as The Boss, seem to contain subtle jabs directed at her ex-partner. The title of the song seemingly originates from an alleged nickname given to Shakira by Pique’s friends as she purportedly failed to connect with them during her relationship with the footballer.
WHAT SHAKIRA SAID AT THE AWARDS
Shakira and Pique ended their 11-year relationship last summer, announcing the split in June. The Spanish World Cup winner moved on with Clara Chia Marti, while Shakira shifted to Miami from Barcelona. After she was presented the award she thanked her Spanish fans for keeping her back in “difficult moments” as an apparent dig at Pique. She said: “I also want to share this with my Spanish public. You have been there accompanying me through the good and the bad, in difficult moments.”
WHAT NEXT FOR SHAKIRA AND RAMOS?
Shakira’s recent wins and public acknowledgements should further amplify her popularity among the fans. Meanwhile, Ramos will return to action against Real Sociedad on November 26 in a La Liga fixture after the international break.
