Cardi B announced on July 11 that she gave birth to her first child, Kulture Kiari Cephus, with husband Offset. Fans immediately wondered if the baby’s name is a reference to Migos‘ last two albums, 2017’s Culture and its successor Culture II, released earlier this year.
But the “I Like It” rapper had a different explanation: “anything else woulda been basic.”
Check out Cardi’s new tweet below.
In April, Cardi appeared on The Ellen Show to discuss her pregnancy reveal on Saturday Night Live; she revealed that Offset was responsible for the name. “My dude named the baby,” she said. “I really like the name. It’s like almost tricky, but when it comes out, it’s like ‘Ah!’”
Kulture’s middle name, Kiari, comes from her father, as Offset’s real name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus.
On Sunday, the rapper shared photos of her two children — son Wave Set, 23 months, and daughter Kulture Kiari, 5 — to her Instagram Story, raving about their adorableness.
“She is so pretty,” Cardi wrote on top of a photo of Kulture smiling at the camera and holding a container of cotton candy, before going on to share a video of her daughter digging in.
“He sooo cuteeee,” wrote the “I Like It” hitmaker.
“I make sure my kids are constantly around family and I bring them back home with me to the Bronx,” said the mother of two. “My kids knowing their grandparents and the community I grew up in is an important part of their identity.”
Cardi went on to say that her “favorite memory” from her childhood “is eating together as a family.”
“There are a lot of personalities at the table. I want my kids to know how important these moments are, being with family, and to cherish them,” she added.
