In a video shared by Angel Reese on Instagram, LSU women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey proved why she commands the respect of the Tigers’ locker room: The 61-year-old can still hoop, even in cowboy boots.

The coach repeated a series of pump fakes before swishing a shot, eliciting an impressed “Okay!” from Reese.
The video, captured at a practice during No. 13 LSU’s road trip to take on Texas A&M, showed off Mulkey’s Southern flair, as she risked scuffing the court in a pair of gaudy cowboy boots.
Mulkey skips Griner’s special day of recognition at Baylor
Mulkey chose to hone her post moves on Sunday instead of celebrating one of the best players she ever coached getting her jersey retired.
WNBA star Brittney Griner was honored by Baylor, where Mulkey was her coach from 2010-2013.
Despite being in Texas, Mulkey did not attend, which may not have been a surprise given her contentious relationship with Griner.
Kim Mulkey’s impressive playing career
Another thing that should not be surprising was Mulkey’s skills in the viral video posted by Reese.
In her playing career, the California native played at the highest level.
She won two national championships in college at Louisiana Tech, including the first ever women’s NCAA basketball championship in 1982.
She went on to play point guard for Team USA as well, but never played professionally, because her playing career predated the WNBA.
Mulkey has translated her basketball skills into a fine coaching career, coaching five NCAA national champions (four as a head coach) at Louisiana Tech, Baylor and LSU.
