“Thank you, I don’t know what to say,” he said when Spotify’s co-head of music, Jeremy Erlich, broke the news to him on the platform’s For the Record podcast. “I do music because it’s my passion, so I’m so happy right now. I’m so grateful and proud right now.”

In 2019, Bad Bunny, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, was fifth in Spotify’s list of top artists, Erlich revealed. He’s acquired about 20 billion total plays on the app. And monthly, he boasts more than 50 million monthly listeners.
The number-one ranking wraps up a big year for Bad Bunny, who released his celebrated album, YHLQMDLG, in February and then El Último Tour del Mundo last month. He earned two Grammy nominations, took home two American Music Awards, and won a Latin Grammy for Best Reggaeton Performance.
