Novak Djokovic’s former coach Nikola Pilic recently gave his opinion on which tennis records will not be broken in the future.
Djokovic had another successful season in 2023 as he won three Grand Slam titles and one ATP Finals , and reached 400 weeks as a top-ranked player. Although he hasn’t played as much as his colleagues, the Serbian has performed well enough in major tournaments to maintain a solid position in the rankings.
In a recent interview with Serbian newspaper Kurir , Nole’s former teacher Pilic said that the numbers prove Djokovic is the best player in tennis history.
Pilic said: “Since last year I have reiterated that Nole is the GOAT and I will repeat that opinion until people start talking about it.”

Pilic pointed out that when the Serbian player is really focused and playing at a high level, it doesn’t matter who is on the other side of the net. The 84-year-old teacher emphasized that Djokovic is still creating conditions for young players like Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner to race to make money.
“Out of the 20 or 21 tournaments that Djokovic plays in a year, there are five or six where he plays his best, and when he plays like that it doesn’t even matter who’s on the other side. Nole has proven that he is still at the top,” Pilic said.
Pilic also believes that there are only two records in tennis that can stand the test of time, which are Djokovic’s record of 400 top 1 weeks and Rafael Nadal’s 14 championships at the French Open.
“I’ve always said there are two records that, in my understanding of tennis, are unbreakable: Nadal’s 14 Roland Garros titles and Novak’s 400 weeks at the top, which is 410 weeks until the Australian Open wide. I’ve been watching tennis for 65 years and these are all-time records,” Pilic said.

While Novak Djokovic’s individual season is over, he still has Davis Cup duties to attend to. After his victory at the ATP Finals last week, the world No. 1 went to Malaga to participate in the Serbian Davis Cup Finals.
