Hoping to start the new year in the same position where he left, Novak Djokovic dealt with a heavy blow. The Serbian, who is currently playing in the United Cup, suffered an injury in the wrist that took a toll on him. After playing his singles match in pain, he decided to not play in the mixed doubles match. However, this is not the first time that something of that sort has happened to him.
Back in 2018, Djokovic suffered an injury on the wrist that forced him to be out of the courts for a long time. That being said, fans are now starting to worry if his injury concerns are the same as what happened to him 6 years ago.
Is Novak Djokovic’s injury concern the same that he had back in 2018?
As Novak Djokovic deals with a wrist injury again, people worry if it’ll be like 2018 when he had a similar problem at the Australian Open. Playing at the United Cup, he had to quit a doubles match due to this wrist issue, making folks concerned about his readiness for the upcoming tournament.
Back in 2018, after Djokovic lost at the Australian Open because of his wrist, he had a secret operation to fix it. This surgery made him miss other important matches too. He was sidelined from subsequent tournaments like the Davis Cup and the Monte Carlo Masters. Now, with Djokovic facing a wrist problem again, everyone wonders if history will repeat itself in the upcoming Australian Open.
Thus, the injury that he suffered recently at the United Cup is now being linked to the same one that he suffered a few years ago. With further developments still to be done, it will be too early to say anything on this.
However, despite the injury, Novak Djokovic found a way to feature in the match and bring out his best performance. In the interview after his match, he suggested that he played despite the pain as he found his way to deal with it.
Djokovic suggests that he found ways to deal with the pain
In the post-match interview, Novak Djokovic came ahead and talked about the injury while suggesting that it is not the first or the last time that anything of this sort happened to him. He further went ahead to add that he found a way to manage it just like any other situation and was able to manage it right till the end.
“I managed to play through. It’s not the first time or the last time, these things happen. You just have to manage. You have to find a solution and thankfully I managed to finish,” said Djokovic in the post-match interview.
Thus, Novak Djokovic, who was looking to start things on a high could not get the best reception from the new year. However, despite injury concerns, he managed to play his best game and helped his team reach the quarter-finals of the tournament.
