After two weeks of incredible tennis, the Australian Open is almost over. The first Grand Slam of the year lived up to its name, ‘Happy Slam’, as the players gave their best. While Melbourne Park witnessed moments of glory, it also bore witness to players’ disappointments. Polish star Hubert Hurkacz, who is one of the most level-headed players on tour, let his frustrations boil over and has had to suffer the consequences.
Hurkacz enjoyed a dream run at the Australian Open this year. He made it to the quarterfinals when he locked horns with Russian star Daniil Medvedev. It was a battle of the behemoths, as both players gave as good as they got. The match went the full distance, with Medvedev defeating Hubert 7-6(4), 2-6, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 after a four-hour marathon.
In addition to the high-quality tennis on display, the spectators at the Rod Laver Arena observed a bit of drama. Hubert lost his temper in the fourth set and ended up throwing his racket over the net. The Pole also hurled profanities, a first-time offense for Hurkacz.

It is not surprising for players to give in to their anger during a match. However, it came as a shock to many because he is usually very collected, even during difficult matches.
Hubert did not escape punishment, though, as the Australian Open authorities fined him for his unsportsmanlike conduct. According to reports, the Pole had to end up paying a fine of $7,600. He joined the likes of Daniil Medvedev, Holger Rune, and others, who have also been fined for their conduct this year.
Hubert Hurkacz made a deep run at the Grand Slam. Despite losing to Medvedev, there were many positives for Hurkacz, one of which was the amount of money he earned.
How much did Hubert Hurkacz earn at the Australian Open?
The Polish tennis star has hit a great patch of form in his career. He has made it to at least the quarterfinals of every tournament he has participated in. Hurkacz stormed into the quarterfinals in Melbourne for the first time in his career.
The world no. 9 defeated the likes of Ugo Humbert and Arthur Cazaux on his way to the quarterfinals. While he lost to the former world no. 1, he had a memorable outing Down Under.

So how much has Hubert made in prize money? The tournament organizers bumped up the prize pool by 13% this year. Since Hurkacz made it to the final 8, he will pocket a check for $600,000.
Hubert Hurkacz has steadily risen through the ranks and is one of the most consistent players at present. He hopes to keep improving himself and making even deeper runs at the upcoming major tournaments.
