Less than 24 hours after failing to reach the NFC Championship Game despite a 12-5 season for the third straight year, many wasted little time calling Mike Mccarthy to be fired.
Jerry Jones wasn’t offering up any comments about what comes next for the Cowboys after being knocked out in the Wild Card round of the playoffs, but Robert Griffin III made his opinion very clear.
The former NFL quarterback and ESPN analyst wants the Dallas Cowboys to fire Mike McCarthy and hire Deion Sanders.
“I hate calling for coaches jobs because it’s not what I do, but it’s got to be the coach,” Griffin said. “You guys have three consecutive 12-win seasons and nothing to show for it. … A lot of people are saying you should go get Bill Belichick as your next coach, because we all know that Mike McCarthy’s stuff was packed before this game was already over. His office, empty. He gone.
“But I know who you need. You need Coach Prime. That’s right, Deion Sanders, Coach Prime.”
Griffin said he believed in Dak Prescott and could lead the team to a Super Bowl. He said if the Cowboys were to hire Sanders, it wuld almost be a sure-thing that Shedeur Sanders would eventually become the team’s quarterback.
While it sounds like a great idea, Sanders, the current Colorado Buffaloes head coach has already stated he has zero interest in coaching in the NFL.
“I don’t have any desire or ambition to coach in the NFL,” Sanders told SI.com. “I have a problem with men getting their checks and not doing their jobs. I would be too tough as a coach in the NFL because I still have those old-school attributes.”
Sanders played in Dallas from 1995-99 and was part of the last Cowboys team that won a Super Bowl.
During his playing career, he won two Super Bowl titles. He has since coached for Jackson State and went 27–6 in three seasons while winning the SWAC in 2021 and 2022.
The Colorado Buffaloes have the top-ranked transfer class of 2024 after going 4-8 in Deion Sanders’ first season as head coach in Boulder.
