Nearly all of Brittany Mahomes’ social media posts are positive and uplifting, but one from last August recounted a scary incident. Mahomes, the KC Current co-owner and wife of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, detailed how she discovered the couple’s son had a peanut allergy and was rushed to an emergency room. Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III, who turned 1 in November, was fine after the incident. But Mahomes on Wednesday shared how she safeguards against further allergic reactions in an Instagram post about her partnership with AUVI-Q.

That is a prescription medicine used to treat life-threatening allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, in young children. “I have an infant and a toddler both who have severe food allergies and I think it is very important to raise awareness of what a severe reaction may look like if it was to happen to a child,” she said. “Based on my experience, I can tell you that a severe reaction may not look how you think it should look.”

The couple’s daughter, Sterling, will turn 3 next month. Mahomes said after posting about Bronze in August she heard from other people who have dealt with similar allergic reactions. “Like all moms, my kids’ safety and happiness is my number one priority,” she wrote on Instagram. “I recently received an outpouring of support from other moms and parents after sharing my experience with Bronze’s severe allergic reaction to peanuts. It was one of the scariest experiences of my life.” Patrick Mahomes told Men’s Health in 2021 he underwent tests and learned he’s allergic to most nuts.
