Magic Johnson, the former point guard, became a father for the first time when his son Andre, who is now 42 years old, was born to him and his ex-girlfriend Melissa Mitchell. In addition, he has two more children, son EJ, who is now 31 years old, and daughter Elisa, who is 28, with his wife Earlitha “Cookie” Johnson.
According to the father, it’s crucial to avoid imposing your desires and expectations on your children. Instead, your focus should be on accepting and loving them unconditionally, regardless of their choices and identity. Magic and Cookie have shared numerous blissful moments with their family over time, such as going on a Mediterranean yacht excursion with their kids and grandkids in July 2023. The NBA icon even uploaded a photo on his Instagram that showcased the whole lot posing on the deck of the boat, as well as a selfie featuring himself and Cookie.
Cookie and I are thrilled to have a group of loved ones coming aboard our yacht soon! Our son-in-law Lisa, granddaughters Gigi and Avery, as well as Andre, EJ, and Elisa will be joining us. The yacht we’ll be on is named “Magic” which is quite fitting considering the extensive profile that follows about Magic Johnson’s three children. Interestingly, his only biological child Andre Johnson was born to his ex-girlfriend Mitchell on February 20, 1981.
Andre, one of Magic Johnson’s children, is known for being very private. Men’s Health reports that he is a successful entrepreneur who previously worked for his father’s investment company, Magic Johnson Enterprises. He was recently promoted to executive vice president of business development at SimWin Sports, a virtual sports league. Andre also hosts a podcast called Please Elaborate with Mike Dupree where they discuss current events and pop culture. He has been married to his wife Lisa since 2010 and they have two children together. Last Halloween, Andre dressed up as Uncle Drew with his family and shared their photo on Instagram. On Father’s Day 2021, he sent a message to Magic expressing his gratitude for being an amazing father to them. Andre goes by the nickname EJ and is currently 31 years old.
Earvin “EJ” Johnson III was born on June 4, 1992, with the middle name EJ in honor of his paternal ancestors. Both EJ and his father, Magic Johnson, have opened up about the challenges EJ faced during his coming-out journey. Despite their support, EJ’s parents were worried about society’s reaction. In an interview, EJ shared that he considered gender transition after Caitlyn Jenner’s revelation but ultimately decided against it. He also spoke about how his father’s fame affected his relationships with men. EJ embraces gender-neutral style and has no plans to transition. Magic Johnson discussed EJ’s gender expression in a documentary set to premiere in 2022. Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union reportedly drew inspiration from EJ’s story in parenting their daughter, Zaya. Magic expressed pride in EJ’s successful career in a 2023 interview. In December 2018, Elisa Johnson, Magic and Cookie’s adopted daughter, survived a home invasion that left her with severe scars. Elisa now embraces her scars as a testimony to her identity and is proud of herself.
