The French NBA rookie was announced as the fashion house’s newest ambassador.
While fashionistas are excited about the Paris Fashion Week show that will take place in a few days, Louis Vuitton has promptly announced French basketball player Victor Wembanyama as the company’s newest ambassador.
Hailing from Le Chesnay, a western suburb of Paris, Wembanyama began playing for his hometown team, Nanterre 92. He later emerged as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft for San Antonio Spurs.
In his first season with Spurs, Wembanyama won many trophies, including Most Valuable Player, Young Player of the Year and Top Scorer. Currently, he is also a very popular name for the Rookie of the Year title.
Wembanyama is not the first athlete to be appointed as an ambassador for Louis Vuitton, with tennis player Carlos Alcaraz and swimmer Leon Marchand among the many famous athletes representing the brand .
“Striving for excellence and constantly honing his skills, Victor joins Louis Vuitton on a journey that shares the same values and ambitions. Like Louis Vuitton himself, this young athlete is already at the forefront in a budding career,” the brand said in a press release.
As the parent group of luxury brands, LVMH Moët Hennessy is preparing to become a sponsor of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Therefore, the decision to choose a rising athlete as Louis Vuitton’s ambassador is not which is surprising, especially considering Wembanyama, a member of the French national team, had high hopes of achieving high results in competition.
Previously, Wembanyama also surprised many people when wearing elegant Louis Vuitton outfits to the 2023 NBA draft.
