USC coach Andy Enfield has spoken about James’ understandable lack of conditioning, explaining that he gets winded quickly and sometimes asks for breaks. He has played in just six contests for the Spartans, all off the bench.

Still, the 19-year-old has shown ability to make standout plays while on a minutes restriction, as his viral slam dunk emphasized. He scored a season-high 15 points in 20 minutes against Oregon State, before his 10 point, 2 rebound, 3 assist performance in 18 minutes against Cal.

“Watched that game and they would’ve won by a lot more if he got more burn,” said a popular comment on TikTok of his showing versus Cal.
