The ultra-heated altercation between Rudy Gobert and Draymond Green continues to be talked about, two months after the events. While the inside of Golden State publicly apologized to the Frenchman, the latter reacted to the Team .
It’s an open secret within the league that Draymond Green and Rudy Gobert absolutely don’t like each other for years. Both elite defenders, they have regularly been in competition and the fact that the Frenchman has already been elected DPOY three times does not go unnoticed by his American counterpart. We have therefore often been able to see them insulting each other on the floor as well as through the media.
This animosity between them, however, crossed a fairly critical threshold last November, when the Warriors star strangled Rudy from behind in the middle of a match. A complete breakdown which then earned him a five-match suspension, but it was only the beginning for the Dancing Bear. Author of a punch on Jusuf Nurkic shortly after, he was once again laid off, this time for several weeks.
Rudy Gobert accepts Draymond Green’s public apology
Having recently returned to competition, we can only hope that Draymond has learned his lesson. The four-time champion in any case had the merit of addressing his victims, publicly asking them for an apology . An intervention which obviously did not escape Gobzilla and the French international reacted to it after the Team:
Draymond Green? I appreciate his apology. Once again, there it is… I wish him to be at peace with himself. He still had a great sporting career so you want him to be in good spirits. It’s true that at the time, it wasn’t easy to keep calm. I think it’s partly thanks to the work I’ve done on myself, over the days, over the years.
I am proud to have shown this strength because in the end, having reacted at the moment would have penalized me more than anything else, it would have penalized the team.
Clearly, the hatchet is not completely buried between the two men, but the former Jazz player seems ready to move on. It must be said that he has other fish to fry at the moment.
Because if Green’s multiple absences are part of a very complicated season for the Warriors, Gobert is at the heart of a real masterclass for the Timberwolves in 2023-24. Again victorious over the Nets last night, Chris Finch’s men are first in the Western Conference with 32 victories for 13 defeats. Pillar of the defense, especially because he never misses the call, Frenchy is no stranger to it.
It wouldn’t have been surprising if Rudy Gobert saw red after being choked by Draymond Green a few weeks ago. Instead, the Olympic vice-champion was able to keep his calm and his campaign is therefore taking place in a much quieter manner than that of his rival. We will still be watching their next confrontation…
