NBA. LeBron James ‘to leave’ the Lakers? Teams are interested in bringing him and Bronny for the 2024-25 season
The Los Angeles Lakers are exploring a unique strategy to retain LeBron James, who is facing a decision on his $51.4 million player option after this season.

According to The Athletic, the Lakers are open to the idea of adding LeBron’s son, Bronny James, to their roster for the 2024-25 season. This move is seen as a way to keep LeBron content and potentially extend his tenure with the Lakers.

Trade rumors have followed LeBron James recently
Whilst the Lakers are keen to keep LeBron both happy and, on their roster, rumors about a trade before the deadline were everywhere.

It’s understood that the Golden State Warriors tried to tempt the Lakers into a deal near the deadline, which would have paired the iconic James with perhaps his greatest foe, Steph Curry.

The trade, however, didn’t materialize and there is now the situation involving the aforementioned player option.

LeBron has expressed his desire to play alongside his son in the NBA, and teams are aware that prioritizing Bronny could be key to securing LeBron’s commitment.
Despite LeBron’s age, he remains a top talent and could significantly elevate a team’s championship prospects.

However, there are uncertainties surrounding Bronny’s NBA prospects. As a freshman at USC, he has not displayed impressive numbers, averaging 5.8 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game with a shooting percentage of just 35.6 percent.

Additionally, he suffered a cardiac arrest in July and only made his first appearance of the year in December, although there aren’t thought to be long-term health concerns.

Despite these challenges, the potential of a father-son duo on the Lakers’ roster could make drafting Bronny more appealing to teams. The Lakers may not have their first-round pick due to a previous trade, but they have two second-round picks and are reportedly well-positioned to add top talent in the upcoming summer.

Currently, the Lakers are in ninth place in the Western Conference, which would qualify them for the NBA Play-In Tournament. This situation underscores the importance of securing LeBron’s commitment and potentially adding Bronny to the team.
