LA Lakers edged past Golden State Warriors to seal a nerve-wracking 145-144 win in the second overtime on Sunday at Chase Center. LeBron James, the oldest NBA player at 39, continues to set new heights and make history at the highest stage. It was the veteran star who carried the Lakers over the line, scoring 36 points with a career-high 20 rebounds and 12 assists.
James sealed the deal by sinking his two free throws with only a second remaining on the clock to hand the Lakers an important win. His teammate Anthony Davis also played a valuable hand, scoring 29 points with 13 rebounds and three assists.

With this win, James also secured bragging rights over Warriors star Steph Curry, who ended on the wrong side despite a heroic effort. Curry scored 46 points with seven assists and three rebounds. The 35-year-old, despite pulling the strings for the Warriors for the majority of the game, fell short in the overtime.
On his duel with Curry, the 39-year-old said that he would look back at it fondly when his career is over. “Steph came to me after the game and said ‘How does it keep getting better?’,”James was quoted as saying by BBC. “It’s something that you will truly take all in when you are done playing.”

“When you are able to watch with your grandkids and say that I played against one of the best ever to play this game,” added the four-time MVP. The Warriors snatched a one-point lead with only 5.2 seconds left, courtesy of a 28-foot three-pointer from Curry.

Klay Thompson took it to the second period of overtime with a 25-foot three-pointer with only seven seconds remaining. However, it was James and the Lakers who had the final say in the game. The Lakers will be in action again on Tuesday against the Houston Rockets at Toyota Center.
