America’s Got Talent fans, let’s all give a big congratulation to Adrian Stoica and his dog Hurricanewho were crowned the winners of season 18!

Ever since the latest installment of the NBC competition series premiered back in May, folks tuned in week after week to see who would make it to the final round of competition and claim victory of the season. As judges Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel delivered feedback about each performance the acts brought to the table, it left people on the edge of their seats to see who from the last 11 finalists would make it to the #1 spot.

In the end, only one act could be the winner, and Adrian and Hurricane beat out magician Anna DeGuzman and dance troupe Murmuration to claim the top prize of $1 million. What’s more, the human-dog duo became the first act like this to win since Olate Dogs won the show’s season 7 back in 2012.

As host Terry Crews declared Adrian and Hurricane’s victory live on the air, he also revealed that the $1 million prize also came with their win. But viewers may not know that there’s a caveat in terms of the monetary reward.

America's Got Talent' Winner Adrian Stoica Will Not Actually Get the $1 Million Prize

As each AGT episode ends, there is a disclaimer that says, “the prize, which totals $1,000,000, is payable in a financial annuity over forty years, or the contestant may choose to receive the present cash value of such annuity.”

While this seems a bit overwhelming to understand, Forbes broke it down in an analysis detailing how much AGT winners actually obtain. It turned out to be interesting findings as the outlet shared that should the winner decide to take the $1 million prize over four decades, they would only receive $25,000 per year before taxes. On the other hand, should the winner choose to take the cash in full a.k.a. the “present cash value,” their earnings would equal up to around $300,000 before splitting it apart for taxes.

While the show has this unique stipulation, it doesn’t mean that winners of AGT won’t make more money in successful careers. Viewers may remember that season 5 winner Jackie Evancho built an illustrious singing career over the years, with her latest single “Behind My Eyes” dropping in early September. As for other winners, season 11 winner Grace VanderWaal is set to star in the 2024 film Megalopolis alongside Shia LaBeoufAubrey Plaza and Adam Driver.

So we can only imagine what Adrian and Hurricane will do!
