In an exclusive chat backstage at America’s Got Talent, Simon said: “We have found I think the best TikTok type of song.

“It came in a week ago and it is brilliant. I’m like, ‘This is perfect. I mean seriously perfect’.”

The talent boss, who put together One Direction back in 2010, has been working on the project since 2020 and said he believed it was the missing link for aspiring artists.

Simon, who created the competition with super producer Max Martin, said: “I’ve always believed songs are the most important part of an artist’s career and this — the opportunity to collaborate with a successful songwriter — could be the missing link.

“But I knew that if we did it, it had to be with the best songwriter alive, and that’s why I approached Max.”

Simon joked he wouldn’t be signing up however saying: “I don’t want to be like a dad dancing at a wedding, right?

“No. I’ll be doing my bit for this but no, I’m not going to be that person. A lot of my friends are on it but if I start following one, I’ve got to follow everybody else.

“But I’m actually quite shy, believe it or not, so I’m not very good at doing that stuff.”
