Simon Cowell has revealed he and fiance Lauren Silverman shocked therapists with their revelations during couples’ therapy.
The X Factor judge and his now fiancé have been together for just over 10 years and last week, the TV and music mogul, 63, told how his mental health plummeted during the global pandemic revealing he and Lauren attended therapy together for the health of their relationship.
Simon sat down for an interview with his ex-girlfriend, Extra’s Terri Seymour, who he dated between 2002 to 2008, at his Malibu home where he opened up about how therapy helped change his and his partner’s life.
Speaking about if it has made his relationship with current girlfriend Lauren better, he said: ‘It has been good for both of us.
‘In fact, we did do this thing where both of us go in… There was one point when we were together and I looked at the two therapists and their faces were like… and when we got out, we both cracked up and said, ‘God, what must they be thinking?

Healthy relationship: Simon opened up about therapy improved the couple’s relationship but confessed: ‘There was one point when we were together and I looked at the two therapists and their faces were like… and when we got out, we both cracked up and said, “God, what must they be thinking?”‘ (Simon and Lauren pictured together in November 2022)
‘Then I spoke to my therapist afterward and he said, ‘Honestly, Simon, that was nothing,’ but it is healthy to go somewhere and let it all out.’
Lauren and Simon have been friends since 2004, however they only began dating in 2012, when Lauren was still married to her husband Andrew Silverman.
The couple’s affair was revealed in July 2013 when it hit the headlines that Lauren was expecting a baby with Simon and Andrew filed for divorce.
The pair have been together ever since and share son Eric, nine. In 2022 they got engaged when Simon popped the question while on holiday in Barbados after the star reassessed his views on marriage and realised he’d fallen in love.
He confessed: ‘I should have done it years ago, I think 20/25 years ago. If you have a family and working, everyone gets stressed. The idea you bottle everything up, you really have to talk about it.’
Speaking about the positive feedback he’s had since opening up about his mental health, Simon tole the Mirror: ‘I did it because I think there’s a lot of people like myself who I certainly used to be this way embarrassed about saying, I need to see a therapist, or I’m feeling vulnerable, or I’m feeling this and that.
‘And because I felt that way, and then I decided to go and see a therapist, and I felt the difference afterwards, I thought, well, if it helped me so much, then I want to say to a lot of people, don’t be afraid of it.
‘It is nothing to be embarrassed about. It’s not a weakness, it’s just go with it. And if you could do the same for me as it would to others, then that’s what it was all about. But yeah, I have a lot of people who say, like you said, you’re surprised you did it, but at the same time it was a good thing to do. And I’m going to do more of that, by the way. ‘

It comes after last week Simon told how his mental health plummeted during the global pandemic, leading him to seek therapy as he fretted over the prospect of catching COVID-19 and passing it on to his family.
He was in LA and looking ahead to a new series of Britain’s Got Talent when the rapid spread of coronavirus prompted worldwide panic and a series of national lockdowns that would change the way we live for the next two years.
And Cowell admits his initial terror regarding the respiratory illness would spark a private mental health battle while he remained stranded in southern California with partner Lauren Silverman and their young son Eric.
He told the Daily Mirror: ‘I’ve suffered from depression over the years…but that was just something I just thought, ‘Well, that’s my character trait. I get down,’ and it’s something you deal with.
‘And then I suppose COVID was the real catalyst. In the very, very, very early stages, some friends of mine got really ill and I’m talking about really ill. So, I thought, “God, if I catch this, maybe the same thing’s going to happen to me, Eric and Lauren”.’
Sobering daily news bulletins highlighting the global death toll, overcrowded hospitals and the devastating impact on life as we know it only intensified his growing panic.

I didn’t know what was true or not, I just didn’t have a clue other than I was petrified about catching it. Just petrified,’ he recalled, admitting he tested himself ‘1,000 times’ during the pandemic.
Cowell eventually did catch the virus and experienced no adverse affects, but the experience made him realise he needed to take steps to improve his mental state as the world slowly returned to normal.
After meeting friends who had benefited from therapy, the father-of-one opted to seek help from a counsellor – an experience he says is akin to ‘taking your brain to the gym.’
Recalling his first session, he said: ‘I made the appointment and I sat down, really embarrassed and I said, “Look, I just don’t know where to start.”‘
‘But within about 20 minutes it was as if I’d known him for 10, 20 years. He put me so much at ease. And you realise you’re talking to a professional and they don’t judge you, they listen to you.’
It comes after earlier this year Simon candidly discussed his three stone weight loss.
Simon confessed he’ll sometimes indulge in a plate of beans of toast to avoid dining in restaurants.
The America’s Got Talent Judge stressed he hasn’t ‘had a gastric band’ and instead said his weight loss is down to a drastic diet change after overhauling his eating habits.
The media mogul added that a doctor warned he’d had ‘the worst diet he’d ever seen,’ and he’s ‘stuck’ to his new regime by cutting out pies, red meat and gluten.
During an interview with The Sun, Simon said: ‘No, I haven’t had a gastric band! Wouldn’t there be scars?’

Weight loss: The star overhauled his lifestyle after breaking his back in 2020 when he crashed his electric bike near his Malibu home and now has regular sleeping and exercise habits and has lost more than 20lbs (seen in 2018)
The TV personality admitted he went to see a doctor in Harley Street who specialises in a certain kind of diet.
He added: ‘He did my blood work and pee and all the rest of it, and a month later the results came in and his words were, ‘You have the worst diet out of all the clients I have ever seen in my life — you have a schoolboy’s diet from the 1960s.’
‘It was just pies. So he sent me a list of things I can’t eat, and that included red meat, dairy, sugar and gluten. And I pretty much stuck to it.’
Simon revealed that when he goes out for dinner now he rarely orders anything as he insists he’s not a big eater.
The record executive even admitted to eating beans on toast before heading on a night out as he can’t stand the food.
As well as now walking 40 miles a week, The X Factor boss rearranged his work schedule to ensure he only starts business meetings after 9am rather than hold conferences into the early hours of the morning like he used to.
A source previously MailOnline: ‘Simon said how he hasn’t worn trainers as much as this in 20 years. He feels fitter than ever before and is keeping to a normal routine rather than being on the phone until into the early hours of the morning.’
