Alan Carr has revealed how he confronted Simon Cowell after he was snubbed as the new Britain’s Got Talent judge.

The comedian, who was approached for the role before it was given to Bruno Tonioli – without him being told – bumped into Simon at Amanda Holden’s house just a week later.

Funnyman Alan, 47, told the Mail: ‘Amanda Holden, the next week, said, “Alan, I’m having a party,” I went, ‘great. Love it.”

‘I go through the door and oh great, Simon‘s in there. Oh s***. So, as I always do, with my best humour I went over there and said, “My wrist has been hurting all weekend practicing that bloody buzzer and you went for Bruno”.’

The former Chatty Man host then mimicked: ‘Alan, that’s show business.’

Choices: Simon’s team decided to go for former Strictly judge Bruno Tonioli as the judge to replace former panellist David Walliams (Simon pictured last month)

Alan confirmed that he met with bosses of the ITV talent show to replace David Walliams earlier this year and expected to have the job.

He jetted in from filming a BBC travel show with Amanda to meet with Fremantle bosses.

Alan was so sure he had the job that he had even decided what clothes he would wear for the auditions.

However, Simon’s team decided to go for former Strictly judge Bruno – leaving ITV executives furious.

Alan said: ‘I had a meeting with them and they said, “Oh yeah….” and they said I’d find out and then I didn’t know on Monday it was Bruno that had for the job.

‘I don’t really know what went on.’

However, Alan was given another job by ITV – who are keen to make him one of their stars.

On October 22, he will be a judge on Mamma Mia! I have a dream – a talent show to find the new stars to play Sophie and Sky in Judy Craymer’s West End production which will be hosted by Zoe Ball.

He will line up with singers Jessie Ware, Samantha Barks and US sensation Amber Riley to judge the wannabes.

However, he insists that unlike old shows such as Cowell’s X Factor, he won’t be nasty.

In a thinly veiled attack against the the music mogul, Simon said: ‘With talent shows I think there is a bit of cynicism but we just wanted this to be very organic, very nice.

‘I mean, we’ve got to send someone home, we’re not going to lie or sugar coat it.

‘But I think we’re being firm but fair. I think those days of me being a nasty judge going [mimics Simon Cowell] ‘I didn’t like it, I loved it’, if I started doing that I think it would be weird.

‘We’re just firm but fair in a kind way. It’s a new era of talent shows, being kinder, a bit nicer. They’re young.’
