Through it all, it seems that Angelina and Brad have been supportive of her children’s passions. But in 2014, when the former was asked if she was “proud” of Vivienne acting alongside her in Maleficent, she hesitated. Fast-forward to 2023, Brad reportedly worried about Vivienne working with her mom again.

Speaking to BBC News in 2014, Jolie shared how all the other kids cried when they saw her as Maleficent. She then thought of casting Vivienne for the role of young Princess Aurora. “I had to cast the only child I knew who was five years old, little girl who wouldn’t cry,” she said at that time.

The interviewer then asked, “Are you proud?” The “nightmare” Original Sin actress paused and almost hesitantly said, “Um, yeah [shrugs].” She went on to say: “I mean, I’m always proud of her. Brad and I both find it so funny that she’s in a movie. Right now, she’s just lost all her three front teeth and just in her pajamas. She’s just this goofy little wonderful person we live with.”

It seemed like Angelina couldn’t believe her young child had just made her film debut before she could even understand what it’s all about. “She’s being talked about on a news channel is just silly to us,” she added. “It’s funny. It’s your baby, so.” When asked if it was “stressful” traveling with Vivienne and her siblings while filming, Angie said it was “exciting” for the kids to play on a Disney set, so she never had to “think seriously” about her work.

Brad Pitt Was Worried When Vivienne Jolie-Pitt Worked As Angelina Jolie’s Broadway Assistant

In August 2023, 15-year-old Vivienne was reportedly hired as Angelina’s assistant in the Broadway musical adaptation of The Outsiders. Back then, the latter said that her daughter’s work ethic reminded her of her late mom, Marcheline Bertrand. “Viv reminds me of my mother in that she isn’t focused on being the center of attention but in being a support to other creatives,” said the Girl, Interrupted alum.

“She’s very thoughtful and serious about theater and working hard to best understand how to contribute,” she continued. A week before that, Angelina said she was “very fortunate to be a part of this special production.” She looked back at her own theater background, saying: “I studied at the Lee Strasberg Institute where I realized my first love, as a performer, was the theatre.”

She then expressed her excitement about working with Vivienne. “I had not found a way back until now,” Angelina added. “I hope to be able to contribute while continuing to learn from this amazing team, who I have been working with since my daughter brought me to see the show at La Jolla Playhouse.”

Over a week later, a source said that Brad was “worried” about Vivienne’s new gig. “Of course Brad is happy that Vivienne’s found something she’s passionate about, but he’s worried that he may lose her in the process,” the insider claimed. “Brad and Vivienne have always had a special connection, which really gets under Angelina’s skin.”

They went on to claim that “it’s no secret that Angie’s always trying to make sure the kids are Team Mom.” They even called her “a master manipulator when it comes to the children taking sides.” But based on court documents, it was Brad that was “emotionally and physically abusive” to his family. Speaking to The Hot Hits Live from LA in 2014, Angelina shared that they joked about Shiloh playing the older Aurora. “She thought it was the most ridiculous thing,” recalled the mom-of-six. “She would never even wear a dress. She would never, ever. She wants to be somebody named Marcus.” Shiloh told her mom that Marcus is a character with “horns and a bow and arrow.”

Angelina agreed with the interviewer that it could be a good “spinoff.” The actress drew flak for allowing Shiloh to wear boy clothes growing up. But in 2021, the latter shocked everyone when she appeared on the red carpet with her mom, wearing a dress and no longer sporting a tomboy look.
