PSG is leading the French championship after 12 rounds, but they are only 3 points clear of Monaco, the third-place team. Thus, the squad led by coach Luis Enrique went into this match determined to win in order to lock up the top spot in Ligue 1.

After several sieges, the first goal was scored in the eighteenth minute by Goncalo Ramos, who took advantage of a mistake made by the opposition’s goalie in catching the ball. Even though Monaco tied the score after four minutes, 1-1, they were unable to stay in balance until the end of the first half.

Kylie Mbappe’s penalty kick in the 39th minute gave PSG the lead for the second time and laid the groundwork for the home club to hold a commanding lead in the second half. Dembele scored in the 70′, Vitor Ferreira in the 72′, and Kolo Muani scored in the 90+6′. Conversely, Monaco only managed one more equalizer in the 75th minute, which was insufficient to save them from a crushing defeat.

With a 5-2 win, PSG maintained their lead in Ligue 1 (30 points from 13 games), 4 points clear of Nice’s trailing team, while Monaco stayed in third place with 24 points.

This triumph also gives PSG the best possible start for their crucial Champions League group stage match against Newcastle in the middle of the following week.
