David Letterman tells Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce haters to ‘shut up’: ‘It’s good for the footballers’
David Letterman is a Swiftie.
The 76-year-old talk show host defended the “Anti-Hero” singer against Brads, Chads, and Angry Dads mad about her presence at NFL games amid her high-profile relationship with Travis Kelce.
“Now here’s Taylor Swift, who is a glowing bright light of goodness in the world and she starts dating Kelsey Grammer,” Letterman hilariously confused the Kansas City Chiefs tight end for the “Frasier” actor in a resurfaced clip from an October 2023 video.
Producer Barbara Gaines quickly stopped Letterman, telling him “No, that’s not true,” before he continued, “People go crazy [about seeing Swift]. The [Kelce] people say, ‘No, no, don’t bother us. We’re all caught up in football. We don’t want Taylor in football.’”
Letterman, who interviewed Swift many times before he retired from the “Late Show” in 2015, concluded, “This is such a lovely thing. Shut up! It’s good for the footballers. It’s good for Taylor Swift. And it’s something positive and happy for the world. … God bless, Taylor Swift and Kelsey Grammer.”

Luckily for Letterman, Swift is expected to attend Super Bowl LVII on Feb. 11 as the Chiefs take on the San Francisco 49ers at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Swift would logistically be able to make it even though she’ll perform her “Eras Tour” in Tokyo, Japan, on Feb. 10 thanks to her private jet and Las Vegas being 17 hours behind Tokyo.
Over the weekend, Kelce explained how he and Swift can shake off the intense public attention around their relationship.

The couple also received public support from ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith last week.
“… She’s going to support her dude. To show up at a football game and the cameras are on her — that ain’t her fault. And excuse me, by the way, she went to the games after the concerts. It’s not like she used the games to bump up the concerts,” he said on “The Howard Stern Show.”
“… Taylor Swift is that girl! Let’s show some respect. She probably is gonna have a positive impact on Travis Kelce’s performance, OK. I’m not trying to disrespect Taylor Swift.”
