Two-time Super Bowl winner Travis Kelce does not plan on retiring from the NFL anytime soon.

The 34-year-old showed a drop in production this season in a Kansas City Chiefs team that is not the same dominant force this year that they were en route to winning the Super Bowl almost a year ago. Therefore, some have begun to question how much longer the tight end will continue to play and these whispers were exacerbated when his relationship with music icon Taylor Swift went public.

When speaking to the Kansas City Star via NBC Sports ahead of the reigning Super Bowl winners’ Wild Card game against the Miami Dolphins on Saturday, the night-time Pro Bowl winner addressed his future and he plans to stick around for much longer. “I have no reason to stop playing football man,” Kelce said.

“I love it. We still have success. Come in with the right mindset, and I just love the challenge it gives me every single day to try and be at my best. Like I said, I have no desire to stop anytime soon.”

Kelce, who turned 34 in October, said that he has given retirement some thought but that he was never serious enough about it to contemplate what he might do if he stopped playing for the Chiefs. “I’ve been fortunate to do a few things outside of the sports world that I’ve been enjoying doing, like getting on camera,” Kelce said. “The [‘Saturday Night Live’] stuff kind of opened up a new happiness and maybe a new career path for me.

“But it’s funny for me to even say that at this point in my career. I think it’s so much further down the road than it is right now.” This season has been a challenging one for the defending champions, who won 11 of their 17 games, their worst regular season record since 2017.

Their prolific passing attack and a high-scoring offense were missing and they ranked just 15th in scoring as their defense proved to be the key to many of their victories. “It’s a new challenge to find ways to get open,” Kelce said. “It’s a new challenge to find ways to get wins. I think I went up to [defensive end Charles] Omenihu after one game or during one game and said, ‘Man, we’ve just got to become a team that just grinds these games out.'”

Kelce failed to extend his record of reaching 1000 receiving yards for the eighth straight season, despite needing just 16 yards to keep the streak intact. On this week’s episode of his ‘New Heights’ Podcast with brother and Philadelphia Eagles player Jason, he explains why he did not play the final regular season game against the Los Angeles Chargers with the record on the line.

“No it wasn’t even about the record,” he said. “I don’t give a s**t about the record. It was a record I had broken four times already. “It’s cool to have that record but at the same time I’ve never sat here and said ‘If I don’t 1000 yards my season was a failure’.

“I already had it in my mind that if I lose a Super Bowl, that’s a failure. It just didn’t feel right to try and go out there for 16 yards. So I thought I’d just bring the energy on the sideline and let my guys go out there and rock, and sure enough they did.”
