Fans Think Cardi B Criticized Demi Lovato’s Fake Confidence In This Old Video

Demi Lovato famously struggled with mental health issues that led to a fatal drug overdose in 2018.

Cardi B doesn’t hold back on sharing her hot takes. Her fans love her for it as she also uses her platform to talk about serious political matters. But years ago, she wasn’t always that careful about voicing her opinions.

For instance, her previous criticism of plastic surgery didn’t age well (no pun intended). Then there’s her comment about Demi Lovato‘s confidence which fans thought was “nasty.” The latter has famously struggled with mental health issues that led to a life-threatening battle with addiction.

Cardi B and Offset have had a lot of relationship drama, even coming close to divorce twice.

What Did Cardi B Say About Demi Lovato?

In a 2015 interview with Genius, Cardi was asked about her pick among the Grammy-nominated pop vocal albums back then. That included Lovato’s Confident which featured an eponymous hit track. The rapper chose Adele’s 25, saying: “I like that song ‘What wrong with being, what’s wrong with being, what’s wrong with being confident,’ But Demi’s not even confident, so we’re gonna go with Adele.”

The WAP hitmaker went on to say that “Adele is super confident. She don’t give a f***. That b**** be like, ‘So what? I’m a big b*** but I’m pretty. What’s good? And I can sing.’ F*** yeah.” The clip has resurfaced recently, with fans saying Cardi was “unhinged” back in those days.

While some thought it was “shady,” many agreed that the mom of two was just being “real.” For the record, Lovato has been vocal about her insecurities growing up in Hollywood. “Sometimes when I’m having bad body image issue days, I remind myself that I’d rather live in freedom from my eating disorder than worry about what people think about my body.” she tweeted in 2017.

“I am more than a number and a jean size,” Lovato continued. “F*** yeah!” Back then, she’d just started sharing her recovery journey on social media. She then took to Instagram, encouraging her followers: “Tell yourself you’re beautiful daily. Be gentle with yourself. Eat carbs without guilt and remember that life is too short to worry about what others think!!”

Are Cardi B And Demi Lovato Friends?

The two music stars seem to be on good terms despite Cardi’s comments. The hip-hop artist even posted an Instagram Story of her hyping up Lovato while singing the Star-Spangled Banner ahead of Super Bowl 2020. During the following year’s Super Bowl, the Sorry Not Sorry songstress was also spotted alongside Cardi and other celebrities, watching the half-time show.

In 2017, Lovato famously covered Cardi’s breakout hit, Bodak Yellow. “I could go on, you don’t understand, I love Cardi B,” the former said after Elvis Duran played the track on his morning radio show. The latter reacted to the cover on Instagram, saying: “I love you more @ddlovato. I love you before you know [sic] I existed😩😩😩😩.”

Cardi seems to get along well with other female artists, except for Nicki Minaj. Months ago, the former’s fans started a petition to kick the latter out of her home. Then recently, Kanye West claimed in an old clip that Cardi “replaced Nicki Minaj purposely,” thinking she’s “a blessing from the universe” when she’s actually a “plant by the Illuminati.

Did Demi Lovato Recover From Her Illness In The Later Years?

In 2018, Lovato survived three strokes and a heart attack following a drug overdose. During an interview with Andy Cohen in July 2023, she revealed that she was still suffering from vision impairment and hearing loss from the tragic incident. “I wouldn’t change my path because I don’t have any regrets,” she said at that time.

Demi Lovato revealed that being in a relationship with an older man as a teen is not all that it is cracked up to be.

“When I think about things, the closest thing that I get to a regret is when I overdosed … that overdose caused me a lot of … it actually caused a disability. I have vision impairment and hearing impairment to this day,” added the Camp Rock alum. “I don’t drive because I have blind spots in my vision.

She now sees it as “a daily constant reminder” for her “to stay on the right path because I never want that to happen again.” Lovato’s recovery journey included living in a sober facility even during her stint as an X-Factor judge. She also turned to meditation, which also gave her awareness of her bipolar disorder, eating disorder, and substance abuse.

Quarantine also helped the actress heal after her on-and-off sobriety. “It’s very common for people to only really work on themselves when crisis happens or when they notice that they’re slipping into old patterns or behaviors,” Lovato said of that time.

“So to be able to walk into this experience without a personal crisis and just be like, I can do the work on myself now because I have the time. … It was a beautiful thing. I wasn’t in rehab; I was outside in the world with Netflix,” she told Bustle. “So when I was too tired of therapy, I’d put on Schitt’s Creek.”
