Simmons is impressed by Wemby’s ability to avoid weird situations that can lead to injuries.
After entering the NBA as one of the most exciting basketball prospects ever, Victor Wembanyama has proven worthy of all the hype. Thanks to his two-way prowess, he has been tying or breaking different rookie records. However, Wemby’s physique has scared some pundits, as some players with a similar body archetype have been injury-prone.
The fact that the San Antonio Spurs wunderkind has missed just five games has impressed Bill Simmons, who brought up Boston Celtics star Kristaps Porzingis as a comparison.
“Porzingis has three times a game where you’re convinced his season’s about to be over, like he jumps, he lands in traffics, or he hits knees with somebody, or he has like a stumble, where you’re like, ‘Oh, no!'” said Simmons. “Wemby doesn’t have as many of those as I thought he would. I thought he would be a little clumsier, but he’s really coordinated. I don’t know how to explain it.
“It’s almost like a ballet dancer. He knows kind of where to land or where to go. He avoids trouble more than I thought with that stuff,” Bill added.
The durable alien
At 7-foot-4 and weighing nearly as much as Draymond Green, who is almost one foot shorter, the concerns about Wembanyama’s durability have hounded him since his time playing professional basketball in France.
