The success on the basketball court has not always met expectations under coach John Calipari, but there’s absolutely no doubt this era of Kentucky Wildcats basketball has brought a nearly unimaginable amount of talent to Lexington.

A quick look at the NBA All-Star Weekend festivities proved exactly that, with seven Wildcats selected among the 24 All-Stars, while they also had players in the Slam Dunk contest and Rising Stars Challenge as well.

Part of that success is of course coach Calipari’s ability to recruit the best high school talent in the country, and help them succeed at the next level, but once you get to that point you can rely on those superstars to help do some of the recruiting for you.

Calipari told a story in that vein, saying a recruit asked former Kentucky guard Devin Booker, now an All-Star with the Phoenix Suns, a simple question: “What about Kentucky?”

Booker’s response, according to coach Cal: “Do you want to change your life? Go to Kentucky”.

Considering the prestige of the program, the amount of talent leaving Lexington and finding their next home in the NBA, and the way BBN embraces the players while they are on campus – it’s easy to see why Booker would spread that message. It’s the truth.

Booker is averaging 27.5 points per game this season, which is 8th best in the NBA. He is also averaging seven assists per contest, good for tenth best in the association. Booker’s Suns are 33-22 on the year and looking to make a playoff push after the All-Star Break.
