It’s not easy to portray James Bond. Daniel Craig had to sustain all the injuries that his British spy character received to make the story more compelling.
All of these deadly stunts were performed by Craig himself. From shooting guns to physical combat, the actor trained himself well.
Daniel Craig as James Bond
His commitment to the role took a toll on his body after spraining his ankle during Spectre (2015) which forced him to file for resignation. Of course, this did not happen as Craig reprised his role, though he opted not to perform as many dangerous stunts as possible.
Daniel Craig Could Not Pull Off This One Scene In Knives Out
In his interview on The Graham Norton Show, Tomb Raider actor Daniel Craig mentioned all of the injuries he suffered from filming James Bond. He revealed:
“I’ve had my right shoulder reconstructed. I have had this left knee operated on, my right knee operated on, my thumb hurts...”
He also told GQ how the whole fiasco that affected him physically and mentally resulted in a five-year break from work. Craig admitted:
“I was never going to do one again. I was like, ‘Is this work really genuinely worth this, to go through this, this whole thing?’
And I didn’t feel… I felt physically really low. So, the prospect of doing another movie was just, like, off the cards. And that’s why it has been five years.”
The 55-year-old English actor suffered a lot from his James Bond movies, and all of those stunts he mostly did without any help from his stunt doubles. Interestingly, in one of Craig’s projects, he actually needed the help of his bodyguard.
Ana de Armas and Daniel Craig in Knives Out
Craig starred in Rian Johnson’s hit Netflix film Knives Out (2019) as Benoit Blanc, the main character who works as a private investigator.
In the movie’s home video release, the director revealed that Craig could not whistle (via Film School Rejects).
There was a scene where Benoit Blanc had to whistle to call Ana de Armas’ Marta Cabrera, but the actor admitted he could not do it.
They resolved to use Craig’s bodyguard, who stood 3 feet away from the camera to the left, to do the whistle.
Will There Be Knives Out 3?
Daniel Craig in Knives Out
After director Rian Johnson confirmed the third installment to the murder mystery film series, fans are excited to see Daniel Craig wear his detective suit again.
The filmmaker has previously stated that he has started writing the script for Knives Out 3. He told Total Film via Slash Film:
“I had so much fun making this one, and the creative challenge of figuring out a third movie that’s completely different from both this one and the first one — right now, that’s the most interesting creative challenge to me.
So, I might just dive in and see what we come up with.”
The Knives Out movies have become vital to Craig’s career as he slowly turns away from his stint as James Bond.
As fans discover more layers to his character in the upcoming whodunit film, Craig will yet to show more of his talent in this feature.
