“You’ll never work again. Who do you think you are?”: Charlize Theron Was Berated and Warned After Refusing to Accept Bad Movie Roles

Charlize Theron is a name that resonates well with acclaimed acting. With her immense talent and fearless approach to her craft, Theron has captivated audiences with her compelling performances and remarkable on-screen presence.

From her role in Monster, for which she earned an Academy Award, to her memorable performances in films like Mad Max: Fury Road, and much more. Theron has consistently showcased her range and dedication as an actress.

However, behind her success and accolades, Theron has faced her fair share of acting struggles that have tested her resilience and determination. Speaking of one, the Hancock star shared how her manager warned her not to accept the bad roles.

Charlize Theron Will Never Pose In White Lingerie Again

Theron’s journey to become a superstar as of now was not easy. The Atomic Blonde star didn’t always enjoy her present fandom and carved her way to success. The actress hoarded the LA streets with her lingerie pics during the release of 2 Days in the Valley. But Theron realized later how her decision to do the project pushed her to accept only certain types of roles.

“It was a lot. I remember standing on Sunset Boulevard, like, ‘Oh my God.’ And the way I was raised was very body positive, so it wasn’t so much, ‘Oh, I’m in lingerie.’ I didn’t make the connection of how wrong that was until way later. Instinct, really.

It was more just overwhelming, like, ‘Holy shit, I’m working with Danny Aiello and Glenne Headly.’ I was ready to do way more Children of the Corn IIIs. But then the other thing happened, which is that you have something that works, and then every audition is like, ‘We just want you to do that’.”

Theron reflected on Luke Evans’ words about coming out of yourself as an actor to play other characters to mark the fact that she sought to work in different roles. The Academy Award-winning actress made up her mind to never pose in white lingerie again, as she wished to try something different.

“But I think that actors, instinctively, know that they want to challenge themselves and want to play things outside of who they are. I don’t think you build a career by playing yourself. Luke Evans just said something great about this. He said, basically, ‘I wouldn’t have a career if I only played gay.’

And I know it’s his personal story, and other people will have their own stories, and I am not a minority, so I have no place in saying this, but, for me, back then, it was a feeling of, I don’t want to be in white lingerie again. I want to do something completely different.”

Charlize Theron On Being Warned By Her Manager After Refusing To Work On Bad Projects

Charlize Theron shared how she received multiple offers of these below-par movies and every time she refuses to do one, her manager would warn her by stating that her career would soon end. Theron’s manager questioned her fame at that time and asked her to be a part of these movies against her will.

“Oh yeah. I had a manager at the time who was like, ‘You have an offer to do Naked Gun and a Half II’ or something, and I was like, ‘Yeah, no, I don’t want to do that.’ He was all, ‘You’ll never work again. Who do you think you are?’

And I was like, ‘You’re right. I am nobody. But something tells me I shouldn’t do that.’ And I like those movies, but I didn’t want to have to go home in four years and run my mom’s construction company. I was constantly thinking, ‘How do I make this last?’ And if you can keep surprising audiences, you might get the job.”
