Ex-Metallica's Jason Newsted Reforms Newsted, First Show in Nearly a Decade Announced

Former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted has resurrected his namesake band Newsted, who will be performing their first show in nearly a decade on May 20th at Revolution Live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Blabbermouth reports. Tickets go on sale this Friday, April 21st at 10 a.m.

Newsted, who is both the singer and bassist of the band, will be joined at the gig by its original members Jesus Mendez Jr. (Underlord) on drums and Jessie Farnsworth (also Underlord) on guitar, along with new guitarist Humberto Perez.

The Newsted project called it quits back in early 2024, following a cancelled appearance at Australia’s Soundwave festival, with Jason himself citing “private and personal circumstances” as the reasons.

Formed in 2012, the band had existed for roughly only two years, with the “Metal” EP and their only full-length album “Heavy Metal Music” both released in 2013.

Whether there will be new music or any more gigs under the Newsted banner is yet to be seen.
