The stars of The Crown series six endured an incredibly awkward moment on the red carpet at the SAG Awards on Saturday night.

The cringe-worthy encounter took place as some of the leading stars of the royal drama stopped to be interviewed by US TV show host Loni Love.

Loni, who was reporting with Laverne Cox on E’s Live From The Red Carpet, initially stopped Princess Diana actress Elizabeth Debicki for a chat.

However, it seemed that Loni hadn’t caught up on the Netflix hit after getting the majority of the cast members mixed up during the interview.

Loni praised Elizabeth, who was awarded the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series, for her portrayal of Princess Diana.

But things took a turn when Elizabeth was joined by her co-stars Ed McVey [Prince William], Luther Ford [Prince Harry] and Khalid Abdalla [Dodi Fayed].

She said to Prince William actor Ed McVey: ‘You played Dodi,’ but Dodi Fayed actor Khalid Abdalla shared that he played the part.

She then said to Ed: ‘You were Harry,’ to which Prince Harry actor Luther Ford corrected her and shared that he was Prince Harry.

Loni then said to Ed: ‘No, you were William,’ to which Ed finally agreed.

The presenter then queried what they all get up to when they aren’t shooting scenes together, however she was corrected that Khalid and Elizabeth never shot with Ed and Luther.

Khalid and Elizabeth shot scenes with a younger Prince Harry and Prince William, played by Fflyn Edwards and Rufus Kampa respectively.

Trying to rectify the situation, Loni, turned to Khalid and said: ‘You did a wonderful rendition of Dodi, how did you do that? ‘Did you study?’

Khalid explained: ‘I studied everything I could find of him. The first word you could think of is Playboy and that’s so wrong.

‘You have to understand the relationship between him and his father and you need to understand the relationship between them.

‘Actually one of the things I liked to do was take all of the photos of them together at the time and put them together chronologically and it too a beautiful story.’

The Crown sadly lost out in the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series category to Succession at the awards.

The Native American actress Lily earned the coveted Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for her incredible work in Killers Of The Flower Moon.

Cillian Murphy earned the Male Actor in a Leading Role gong while Robert Downey Jr. took home Male Actor in a Supporting Role with the entire ensemble earning top honor Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture for Oppenheimer at the end of the night.

Meanwhile critically acclaimed Succession was upset several times in the television categories, including by Elizabeth, who beat out Sarah Snook for The Crown, while The Last Of Us star Pedro Pascal triumphed over Kieran Culkin, Brian Cox and Matthew Macfadyen.

The HBO series did ultimately take home top honor Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.

Elsewhere in television The Bear earned  Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series in addition to Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor and Male Actor in a Comedy Series for Ayo Edebiri and Jeremy Allen White, respectively.

They were not the only dynamic duo to triumph as Beef’s Ali Wong and Steven Yeun took home Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor and Male Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series.

This gathering may not have been able to be a reality months ago as after a taxing 118-day strike, the Screen Actors Guild honored the best performers in film and television at the gala.

Winners were determined by SAG-AFTRA members, who vote for their favorites across a number of categories.
