USA Basketball revealed the 41-athlete player pool for the 2024 USA Basketball Men’s National Team.
The managing director, Grant Hill, curated a powerhouse lineup featuring 28 players with extensive Olympic and/or FIBA Men’s World Cup experience, boasting a combined 23 gold medals. The squad will be narrowed down to the final 12-member team that will represent the United States at the 2024 Olympic Summer Games in Paris.
LeBron James set to make USA Basketball history
The finalist roster reads like a who’s who of basketball excellence, including LeBron James, who, at 39, could potentially become the oldest U.S. Olympic men’s basketball player ever. A record held by Larry Bird since 1992.
The seasoned James is eyeing an unprecedented fourth Olympics and a shot at a third Olympic gold medal.
On the other end of the spectrum, Stephen Curry is set to make his debut Olympic appearance, adding a fresh dynamic to the team.
Joel Embiid, the reigning NBA MVP, solidified his commitment to the U.S. after deliberating on playing for Cameroon or France.
Steve Kerr set for first Olympic Games as head coach
Grant Hill expressed his enthusiasm in the press release, stating, “The United States boasts unbelievable basketball talent, and I am thrilled that many of the game’s superstars have expressed interest in representing our country at the 2024 Olympic Summer Games.”
The coaching helm for the 2024 USA Men’s National Team will be led by head coach Steve Kerr, assisted by Mark Few, Tyronn Lue, and Erik Spoelstra.
This quartet previously coached the 2023 USA Basketball Men’s National Team at the 2023 FIBA Men’s World Cup.
