Some of the most popular Lindsay Lohan movies include The Parent Trap, Mean Girls, and the Freaky Friday remake starring Jamie Lee Curtis. The actress starred in these films when she was younger and at the start of her career. Unfortunately, she went through some hard times. Stories began being told about Lohan being late for shoot days or missing them altogether. And soon fans were wondering if she would ever have a true comeback.
2022 and 2023 were better years for Lindsay Lohan. She starred in the Netflix movie Falling For Christmas and will be in the upcoming Irish Wish. She’s also going to welcome her first baby with her husband Bader Shammas. But when looking back at Lindsay Lohan’s career, there are some movies that stand out because they bombed at the box office. Which films did poorly?
The Lindsay Lohan Movie The Canyons Only Grossed
$30,100 In Its Opening Weekend
While many Lindsay Lohan movies made money at the box office, that isn’t true of all of them. One of her most famous movies is The Canyons, which was released in 2013. Lohan starred alongside James Deen. After years of bad press and talk of rehab and arrests, she hoped that the film would put her back on the acting scene. Unfortunately, several reports said that
The Daily Mail reported that The Canyons only grossed $30,100 on its first weekend in theaters. The movie had a very small budget of only $250,000. Still, that was a pretty poor showing.

In The Canyons, Lohan’s character Tara is dating Christian, a horror movie director. He begins working on a new film with a character named Ryan, played by Nolan Funk. Things become complicated between Christian and Tara as a result.
Us Weekly reported that Paul Schrader, the director of The Canyons, explained at the Venice Film Festival that he thought Lohan was great on camera. However, he didn’t approve of the way that she acted on set.
He said, “Today I am free. In the past 16 months, I have been hostage to Lindsay Lohan. She is a great actress, she should be here, but her behavior is unspeakable.”
Lohan was late for several shoot days, and it seems that her behavior was tough on the director and her co-stars.
In 2013, Bret Easton Ellis, who wrote The Canyons, explained on the podcast that he started that he felt the movie didn’t do well because of Lindsay Lohan.
Ellis said, “Lindsay’s reputation follows her everywhere. And the moment that we cast Lindsay Lohan, the movie became something else. It stopped becoming the DIY movie that could make it into part of the trainwreck of the Lindsay Lohan narrative.” He also said, “I think where we went wrong was with the casting of Lindsay Lohan. Now I don’t mean she wasn’t good in it, she was very good in the movie. I mean that suddenly The Canyons has become the Lindsay Lohan film.”

In 2013, the same year that The Canyons came out, Lindsay Lohan appeared on David Letterman. And it was a tough and awkward moment in her career.
There were many news stories about the actress at this time. She was supposed to be talking about her career during that TV episode. But, according to Deadline, Letterman talked about rehab instead.
He said, “Aren’t you supposed to be in rehab?” He also asked, “What are they rehab-ing? What is on their list? What are they going to work on when you walk through the door?” Lohan wasn’t pleased with the way that he treated her. She told him, “You can’t make a joke of it, that’s so mean. You can’t do that, it’s my show now.”
InAPPropriate Comedy Was One Of The Least Successful Lindsay Lohan Movies
The 2013 movie InAPPropriate Comedy featured a variety of sketches. Lindsay Lohan appeared in the movie as a homage to The Seven Year Itch. In that movie, Marilyn Monroe wore a white dress and an air vent caused it to fly up.

According to Box Office Mojo, InAPPropriate Comedy had a worldwide gross of $228,004. The Daily Beast reported that the movie earned $172,000 its opening weekend and played in 275 movie theaters.
InAPPropriate Comedy also starred Adrien Brody, Vince Offer, Michelle Rodriguez, and Rob Schneider.
The movie seems to have been mostly forgotten by many, and it didn’t get awesome reviews, either. The Daily Mail reported that in 2013, the actress had a third-degree misdemeanor charge because of a situation that happened at a club.
Lindsay Lohan Starred In Chapter 27, Which Only Grossed $187,488
In 2007, Lindsay Lohan starred in Chapter 27, a movie that fictionalizes the time when Mark David Chapman killed John Lennon. The actress played Jude Hanson, a character who loves The Beatles and Lennon in particular.
According to Box Office Mojo, Chapter 27 grossed only $187,488. This makes it one of the Lindsay Lohan movies that made the least amount of money at the box office.
While she starred in many 2000s movies that fans adored, like Mean Girls, Lohan’s career began to take a turn around the time that Chapter 27 was released.
Lohan also starred in the 2009 movie Labor Pains. The film grossed $1,885,011, according to Box Office Mojo. While that is more money than Chapter 27, InAPPropriate Behavior, and The Canyons made, it’s still very low when compared to her hit movies.
While some Lindsay Lohan movies have made very little money at the box office, it sounds like she never lost sight of wanting to act. In 2010, she was on the cover of Vanity Fair and said in the interview, “I don’t care what anyone says. I know that I’m a d*mn good actress. And I know that in my past I was young and irresponsible—but that’s what growing up is. You learn from your mistakes.”
