A viral video shows “King James” singing to the rhythm of the “King of Pop.”
LeBron James is the king of the hardcourt and now he is also the king of sing-along.LAPRESSE
LeBron James’ talent on the court is undoubted. The Los Angeles Lakers forward’s numbers speak for themselves, and his presence in games is indisputable; however, recently, “King James” revealed one of his hidden abilities: his talent for singing.
No one would have suspected it, but the 6’9″ forward, who dominates the NBA courts, has a gift for music, especially when it comes to another king: that of pop, Michael Jackson.
A video went viral on social media recently, where James can be seen singing at the top of his lungs during a workout in the Lakers’ weight room, following the lyrics of “Rock With You,” playing over the speakers.
James doesn’t seem to mind that the cameras are catching him, and his performance, while out of tune, is full of feeling and emotion.
The response of the fans
The clip, which is part of Spectrum Sportsnet’s weekly documentary Backstage:Lakers, did not go unnoticed on social media, where it has attracted all kinds of comments.
Those most accustomed to James’ antics are amazed that he finally knows the lyrics to a song: “Ayoooo he actually knows the Lyrics lmaoooooo,” one was amazed, while another acknowledged, “This the first time I saw him singing the right lyrics. This is character development.”
Others sincerely supported the self-confidence of “King James:” “That’s just awesome,” and “Sang it Lebron,” were some of the comments on the matter.
But there was no shortage of someone else who criticized his apparent lack of professionalism: “Now I understand why the Lakers always lose to the weakest opponents. The leader of the team doing American Idol. Kobe would never.”
LeBron is still at the top of his game
James is on fire this season. The Lakers forward is averaging 24.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 7.6 assists per game, still on par with his career averages of 27.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 7.3 assists.
Not only that, James is also one of the most popular players in the NBA, with an astonishing 159 million followers on Instagram and 52 million on Twitter.
Not to mention that he was elected by popular vote as an All-Star for the 20th consecutive season with five million votes. James was surpassed only by Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo.
