Fans and Steve Harvey have different perspectives on Jamie Foxx’s stand-up career.
At the moment, Jamie Foxx is facing a tough situation. However, Jamie Foxx denied sexually assaulting a woman at a New York bar in 2015. The actor’s spokesperson said in a statement, “The claims are no more viable today than they were then. We are confident they will be dismissed again. And once they are, Mr Foxx intends to pursue a claim for malicious prosecution against this person and her attorneys for re-filing this frivolous action.”
It remains to be seen how the situation plays out. However, in the following, we’re going to switch gears and take a closer look at Foxx’s stand-up career. According to Steve Harvey, Foxx was once booed of a stage, and was down on himself behind the scenes once it wrapped up.
However, evidence of the performance tells a different story. We’ll take a closer look at exactly what went down. In addition, we’ll take a look at Foxx’s future in the world of stand-up, and other major names that were once booed off the stage.
Steve Harvey Recalled Jamie Foxx’s Failed Performance As A Comic, But Evidence Suggests Foxx Was A Major Hit
Credit to Steve Harvey as he was trying to motivate fans. However, the story didn’t quite add up. Steve Harvey was referencing one of Foxx’s performances as a stand-up comedian, stating that the popular actor was booed.
Harvey said, “Jamie Foxx went down there and got booed. They booed Jamie and Jamie started singing. Then they started clapping. Jamie had them, then he went back to the jokes and they got his ass.”
He continues, “Then I’m walking down the steps and I see Jamie. He tells me that ain’t ever happen to me before. This is crazy. This is Jamie Foxx, one of the most talented people in all of comedy.”
However, the true outcome appeared to be a little different… Harvey was correct that Foxx was cheered during his song but, in truth, he received a warm ovation throughout his stand-up act.
Even the comments were nothing but positive looking back at Foxx’s performance.
One fan wrote, “Piano player, singer, comedian, actor, dancer. Is there anything he doesn’t do well? How gifted. The Major Harris was off the charts!”
Despite his busy schedule throughout the years, Foxx would make a return to stand-up sporadically during his career.
Jamie Foxx Would Make A Return To Stand-Up Comedy Despite His Tremendous Acting Career
While promoting Day Shift last year, Jamie Foxx discussed his return to stand-up comedy. Now the actor didn’t set a date. However, he did reveal that he never left the stand-up world to begin with, and was eager to return with new material.
He said, “I’m going back out,” said Foxx “I never really left doing stand-up. I’m always doing stand-up just not efficiently. But I’ve been just testing the waters and [doing] impersonations…”
“I’m going to the [comedy] clubs that I started out at. So it will be up close. Up close I kill em’… I’m going to have some real material. It’s going to be fun.”
Great to see that Fox still has so much love and passion for the world of stand-up. In truth, it isn’t an easy form of entertainment to master. Although Steve Harvey might not have been entirely accurate with his story, he was correct in the sense that even the best fell down. That includes none other than Dave Chappelle, who also struggled during certain moments.
Other Major Names Bombed At Stand-Up Comedy Early On In Their Careers, Including Dave Chappelle
That’s right, early on in his career, Dave Chappelle was booed at the Apollo during amateur night. However, Dave Chappelle reacted to the booing in the best way possible. Chappelle revealed that once the boos came in, he wasn’t bothered at all and in fact, getting a taste of it allowed him to realize that it really wasn’t the end of the world. If anything, Chappelle got thicker skin because of the moment.
“It’s that, bro. You know these paths in life they reveal themselves. This goes back to what we were saying earlier. If you look at things through the lens of money or monetary gain, you’ll miss so much. This thing about just following a passion, having a good dinner with someone — yeah I’ll do it! That’s usually how the greatest things happen.”
Dave Chappelle is a rare example of a star in Hollywood that managed to do things his way, despite all the success and pressure around him.
