Nikola Jokic makes history: Ties Wilt Chamberlain’s triple-double record

The NBA Finals MVP has continued his sensational form into 2023/24

Nikola Jokic makes history: Ties Wilt Chamberlain's triple-double record

Nikola Jokic tied Wilt Chamberlain‘s perfect triple-double record by producing 26 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists as the Denver Nuggets demolished the Memphis Grizzlies on December 28.

The defending champions produced a 142-105 thrashing of the Grizzlies, who were ranked third-last in the Western Conference, to improve their record to 23-10 (.697) as they chase down the Minnesota Timberwolves (23-7, .767).

Jokic, as ever, starred for the team by going 11-11 from the field, making his only three-point shot and going three-for-three from the line for a 100% shooting accuracy that made history.

He tied the legendary Wilt Chamberlain for a third triple-double with perfect shooting and the pair also share the honors of being the only players to make multiple triple-doubles without missing a field goal from a minimum of 10 attempts.

It followed another elite-level outing against the Golden State Warriors on Monday, December 25, when he went 18-18 on three throw attempts in a 120-114 victory over Steph Curry‘s side.

Jokic’s crazy triple-double form

Jokic is one of the hottest properties in basketball, if not the hottest, and part of that is for his incredibly consistent and voluminous output for the Denver Nuggets, being a key part of why they won the 2023 NBA Finals.

His triple-double against the Grizzlies was the 116th of his career, placing fourth in NBA history behind Magic Johnson (138), Oscar Robertson (181) and Russell Westbrook (198).

When adjusted for their triple-double percentages against games played, the Serbian is currently on pace to beat them by the time he gets to the same number of games played.

Jokic‘s score works out at 18.4%, compared to 15.2% for Johnson, 17.4% for Robertson and 17.6 for Westbrook and the Serb’s teammate, Peyton Watson, summed up Jokic‘s form quite simply by saying, “I’ve never seen a triple-double before I played with him and now, I see them all the time.”
