Some celebrities never break from their schedule of Instagram updates and paparazzi photo ops, but others prefer to keep a low profile. Jennifer Lawrence fits neatly into the latter category. For the last six months, the Oscar winner has been MIA from public life while enjoying personal time with her husband, Cooke Maroney. Yesterday in TriBeCa, however, Lawrence resurfaced to enjoy an afternoon stroll through her neighborhood while wearing the perfect spring dress.

While her Garrett Leight sunglasses and black mask kept the star incognito, Lawrence’s emerald HVN shirtdress was impossible to ignore. Covered in a playful print featuring illustrated kittens and balls of yarn, the look had an irreverent charm and retro feel. Its midi-length silhouette, pockets, and cuffed sleeves called to mind the house dresses that were ubiquitous in the 1950s and 60s (and have had a revival in 2021). Still, Lawrence kept her outfit current thanks to her platform Dior derby oxfords and a tonal version of Dior’s popular book tote.

If Lawrence’s look feels familiar, it may have something to do with its creator. DJ-turned-designer Harley Viera Newton launched her HVN line back in 2016 to rave reviews. Drawing inspiration from the vintage pieces, Viera-Newton’s line focuses on timeless, easy to wear pieces with whimsical patterns and day-to-night functionality. It would only take a swipe of lipstick or the addition of a piece of jewelry for Lawrence’s afternoon stroll outfit to transform into an evening look, precisely what makes it an ideal choice for the season of reemergence.
