Kathryn Bernardo is on her way to being her best self.

The 28-year-old actress wowed guests, media, and vloggers when she confidently walked on the runway at an event held last May 14, at White Space Manila in Makati City. She was joined by the 36 finalists of the 9th Century Tuna Superbods.

“This means so much to me. This has been a dream of mine for the longest time,” Kathryn told entertainment media, including GMANetwork.com, in a short interview after the event.

She also mentioned that she has been following the previous campaigns of Superbods. So, when she was tapped to become its newest ambassador earlier this year, Kath said, “I just said yes right away kasi nga it has always been my dream.”

She added, “I really believe in what the brand stands for like, promoting a healthy lifestyle and, of course, eating a balanced diet.”

Preparing for this new endorsement might have been a little bit easier for Kathryn because she has been consistently working out since she was 16.

“Ever since I was 16, I started working out already. For me, it’s like my ‘me time.’ So, if I have a free day or if I have a little time at night, I really enjoy working out. Maybe through the years, it just evolved kung ano yung workout na gagawin ko,” the Hello, Love, Goodbye actress said.

One of the changes in her workout routine is doing functional exercises.

She said, “For this in particular, they hired a coach for me, his name is Mauro Lumba, who was the winner in 2014 Superbods. They also got a nutritionist for me kasi nga very limited ang time ko to prepare. Naging open din ako with, I think, functional training.

Functional training, according to healthline.com, consists of “exercises that help you perform activities in everyday life more easily.

“These exercises typically use the whole body–definitely multiple muscles–and emphasize core strength and stability.

“By mirroring the movements of your daily life, like squatting, reaching, or even carrying a heavy object, building functional strength can help increase your quality of life and reduce your risk of injury.”

For her part, Kath said, “Usually, I do tennis for cardio and then, I do pilates for the abs. For this, Mauro introduced me to functional training and a little bit of lifting just to gain some muscles, especially sa lower body ko. And I really enjoyed it!”

The actress also realized during her training, “Parang yung lesson lang sa lahat ng ito siguro is just to be open with any workout and whatever works for you then continue doing it. As for me, I really enjoyed doing it, so nagtuluy-tuloy ako kay Mau kahit tapos na yung shoot namin.”

Kathryn vows to continue working out to become the best version of herself.

“My next goal now is to be more fit, especially for the finals sa July. I have time pa to prepare for that kasi I’m still on my journey to being my best self. We’ll get there,” she concluded.
