The Weeknd breaks 2 Guinness World Records — and nabs 1 more big honor

The Weeknd has shattered two Guinness World Records, which has designated him “the world’s most popular artist.”

The 33-year-old “Starboy” singer currently holds the Guinness title for the most monthly listeners on Spotify (male) at 111.6 million, which also makes him the first artist to reach 100 million monthly listeners on the platform, Guinness confirmed to The Post on Tuesday.

His Spotify numbers even soar above other high-ranking acts, including Miley Cyrus, who has 82.3 million monthly listeners, Shakira (81.7 million), Taylor Swift (80.3 million) and Rihanna (78.2 million).

The Weeknd’s closest male competitor, Ed Sheeran, has 77.5 million monthly Spotify listeners.

The Post has contacted representatives for The Weeknd for comment.

This isn’t the first time The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, has been included in the history books.

He was awarded two honors in 2016: One for the most streamed album on Spotify in 2015, and the other for the most consecutive weeks in the Top 10 of Billboard’s Hot 100 by a solo male artist.

Of course, the world’s most famous artist also reached that status by having the biggest song ever.

His 2020 smash hit “Blinding Lights” has more Spotify streams than any other song in history with more than 3.4 billion listens on the platform.

His 2021 Super Bowl halftime show closer is also the longest charting song on the Billboard Hot 100 of all time with a total of 90 weeks.

Adding to his GOAT status, The Weeknd joined Michael Jackson earlier this month as the only male solo artists with multiple No. 1 songs from three albums, hitting that height with his song “Die For You (Remix),” featuring Ariana Grande.

But that doesn’t mean he isn’t controversial.
