“Wouldn’t Say I’m a Better Shooter Than Steph Curry”: Sabrina Ionescu Chose the Humble Route 1 Year Before Accepting All-Star Weekend Duel

The NBA has cooked up a classic for the 2024 All-Star Weekend in Indiana. The all-time leader in 3-pointers made, Stephen Curry will face off against the 3-Point Contest record holder, Sabrina Ionescu in a 3-point showdown. While all eyes are focused on the ultimate battle, here’s a look back at the New York Liberty star’s humble words after beating Curry’s insane record in the 3-point contest last year.

Sabrina Ionescu stunned the world with her unbelievable performance in the 2023 WNBA All-Star weekend. Missing only 2 shots on her way, the Liberty guard set a record for most points scored in the 3-point contest across WNBA and NBA with 37 points. She overtook the Golden State Warriors guard’s record of 36. However, after shattering the 2x MVP’s record, Ionescu chose the humble route.

Sabrina Ionescu acknowledges the greatest shooter

Sabrina Ionescu has made a name for herself as one of WNBA’s best shooters. Stephen Curry on the other hand, has shattered records throughout his 15-year career, changing the game of basketball completely. With shooters of Ionescu and Curry’s calibre, the 2024 All-Star Weekend promises nothing but thrill and excitement. However, before the much-awaited contest begins, here’s a look back at what the Liberty guard had to say after the 9x All-Star.

I wouldn’t say I’m a better shooter than Steph Curry, ” said the 2x All-Star. She went on to add: “It’s different shooting off a rack but to be included in the names of…winning this award in the WNBA and also the NBA is very special.” Ionescu also emphasised on her work ethics that made her the terrific 3-point shooter she is.

Ionescu may have taken home the 3-point crown last season but Stephen Curry will not let her have it so easy this year. Before the Warriors’ clash against the Atlanta Hawks, Curry hinted a 3-point battle to silence the shrill.

Curry’s All-Star snub may fuel wrath in 3-point contest

Stephen Curry has served as the face of the NBA ever since his unreal 3-point shooting changed the game. Naturally, the Warriors guard made All-Star appearances a common sighting. In fact, for the past 10 years, unless injured, Curry has started in every All-Star game he played. That changed this year.

Stephen Curry received a major snub this year as Oklahoma City Thunder’s Shai-Gilgeous Alexander made the All-Star Starters lineup over him. This is the first time in 10 years that the 2x MVP may be named in the All-Star Reserves. While the Thunder guard has had an MVP level season, Curry’s underwhelming season may have prompted this major snub. However, the Warriors guard has the perfect chance for redemption – the 3-point contest.

While showing Sabrina Ionescu he still rules the 3-point line, Steph can also prove his doubters wrong for snubbing him from the starting lineup. Will Curry show the world he’s still the undisputed “3-point king”? Or will Sabrina Ionescu steal the crown from Curry? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
